GUIDE: How to Bhop in CS:S

Strafing

#1.Weaving

Short, 80 degree turn between blocks.

#2.Flick

Two consecutive weaves added together to create a small double-arc, that resembles a “flickâ€.

#3.Wiggling

A series of small flicks used to maximize distance. Typically used for long jumping, the arcs must remain constant and in sync.

And by learning these you can bring them all together into one huge technique that will help you a lot.

Bhop Binds

#1.Bind mwheeldown +jump

This will bind your jump to your mouse wheel, we do this because using the spacebar provides only a single jump and it is difficult to time that single jump (as well as a delay after pressing the spacebar). Using the mouse wheel, it spreads a greater number of jumps over a greater amount of time to increase the chance of getting a well timed jump.

#2.Bind "Key" +left or Bind "Key" +right

Holding the key you bound will slowly turn you left or right, and combined with a or d can provide a smoother and more efficient full strafe. Used for prespeeding. (NOTE: On some servers, using +left or +right will slay you/stop your timer/get you banned. Be careful.)

Basically those are all the binds you need.

Commands to help bhop and other such.

#1.Fps_Max 54/Whatever[scrolling only, don't do this for auto]

Normally, your fps is at the default number of 300, yeah this good and all, but if you’re beginning, you might want to learn by using fps_max. By putting your fps_max to 54 and others (49.254, 53.9398177, etc), it helps bhopping a lot. I can’t really explain it too much because I don't understand how it works, but it helps a lot. Now on 300 you don’t get the % of perfect jumps that fps_max provides, meaning bad jumps slow you down less because they are infrequent. There are elitists of each, aka fps_max 54 and lower and fps_max 300'ers, they all call each other noobs and other such, just ignore them and use what you prefer.

#2.Cl_showpos 1

Shows how your velocity in the top right corner.

#3.net_graph 1

Shows your fps, the tick rate, and various other things.

#4.m_rawinput 1

Smooths out your mouse movement. Helps to maintain flowing strafes and arcs. Must disable mouse acceleration for it to work (in the source options menu under “mouse), and you may have to up your sensitivity. There's also a bug where x-fire prevents it from functioning. May not work with all mice.

#5.m_filter 1

Makes mouse movements a tiny bit smoother.

#6.mat_monitorgamma 1.6

Use this to turn your brightness to max for your game for maps have shit lighting and really dark

There's the commands I use, there may be more but I can't remember.

Air Acceleration

#1.1000 AA

Crouching and standing up give same speed amount, strafes can be terrible but high sync at the same time, most autobhop and 200 tick servers use this aa

#2.150 AA

In this AA you can crouch and strafe without losing most of your speed, and your strafes can be wide and messy while standing up and still you won’t loose much speed (unless you go apeshit).

#3.100 AA

In this AA if you crouch and try to strafe you'll lose almost all your speed unless done properly. Easy to lose speed if your strafes are jagged (which is why fluid arcs and raw input/mouse filter helps).

#4.10 AA

Basically, don't fuck with it until you get really good at strafing. It’s really easy to lose all of your speed. It’s bugged for CS:S, but it’s what CS 1.6 bhoppers use.

Tick-rates

#1.200 Tick

In higher tick rates, strafing provides a great deal more velocity. Very easy to go very fast. Cfg scripts are used commonly because they work better on higher tick rates.

#2.100 Tick

This is your original bhop tickrate, easy to time jumps, and do everything bhop related. Simple.

#3.66 Tick

what most servers CSS servers use. bhop here is much harder unless you set your fps_max to 34/31[scrolling], which makes it much simpler.

#4.33 Tick

Don't even attempt to bhop here, it’s nearly impossible to get even past 400+ velocity.

Advanced Techniques

#1.Sideways

Instead of using a and d to strafe, you use w and s while facing sideways. It’s easy to learn as long as you can bhop well regularly. People say its like re-learning bhop all over again, just ignore them.

#2.W Only

Just using w, you use your mouse to “twist†to the platforms. Usually requires large arcs, and it can be difficult to pick up speed.

#3.Half Sideways

basically normal and w only mixed together, close to the same strafes and easy to get hang of, pressing w + d or a

#4.D only

Kinda like telehopping on bhop_eazy just 180 degree strafes back and forth while holding d

#5.A only

Look @ D only except hold a

#6.Crouchboosting

Thanks to blacky, for auto crouchboosting only works on boosters, so basically hit crouch at the same time you hit the ground on a booster.

Prespeeding

#1.Figure 8's

All you do is jump around in a figure 8.

#2.+left Or +right

Bind a key to +left and one to +right, and combine those with a and d to perform perfect circle jumps. Great for picking up speed, but are usually disallowed and can result in automatic slay/kick/timer stop depending on the server.

Just a FYI these videos are placeholders. (except blacky's video)

Special thanks to Denode for fixing any grammar mistakes, and making it look a lot nicer.
