Memes

I've been truly disgusted with myself recently, primarily for being an internet hipster. When people make "the game" references, my first thought is "pff that stopped being funny in 2007." When people say "over 9000," I feel disgust for how late they are. However, they're not in the wrong for this. They just heard of it, and good on them, because it means they don't visit 4chan or SA or anything along those lines. I feel ashamed of the fact that I used to, in some obfuscated way, take pride in the fact that I was privy to the new memes before other people. Why am I ashamed of that? Because it means spent way too much time on a community that's, at its best, a shitty place. It's just a playground for the socially inept, and it only makes their social skills worse (after all, the things you learn from 4chan/SA aren't really applicable in real life, I.E. normal people don't care about the latest meme).

So next time you see someone spouting shitty old memes, applaud them for it. It means they're more normal than you are.

"Posers"/"Tryhards"

Excuse the title of this part, I couldn't really think of a more fitting term for what I'm going to describe.

In returning to Counter-Strike I found out about the new "Jailbreak" fad. Curious to try it, I looked up a brief description and decided it would be fun to try. I was half right. It was great with a good leader and fun people, but the alternate scenario is what sparked this train-of-thought. The alternate scenario is the people who treat it as if it's literally a jail scenario. On a more general scale, these are the people that for whatever reason resort to video games to get their power trips. More than a few times I've been on a server only to have an Admin who's HF/LF autistic come on, or someone with ADHD, or whatever, and because they may not have an optimal social experience, even the slightest of casual insults even in their general direction warrants a permanent ban in their eyes. More than a few times I've been on Jailbreak/RP only to have a cop/leader/mayor or whatever treat it as if it is THEIR jail or THEIR city. They micromanage, and take all the fun out of anything. Goofing off is unacceptable, having fun is against the rules, and laugh at them and you'll get a mouthful.

If you're one of these people, whether it be a ban-happy madmin or a RP/JB addict, please, for the gaming experience of everyone else, leave your social anxieties at the door. Play games to relax, play games to have fun, play games to be social. Don't play games to escape, and do not play games to compensate. You're ruining the experience for everyone else, and you're just asking to be berated.

Kids

It seems a lot of people have huge issues with kids playing Counterstrike. I, for one, welcome our new prepubescent overlords. Why? Because it means they're not playing CoD or Halo, and I'd much rather have them playing a Source game then an "OMG SO REAAAL" shitfest such as BLOPS and not be plagued by the idiots that infest XBL. Next time a 13 year old comes on CS:S and is generally good, isn't a whiner, and doesn't scream, you should welcome them. It means the continuation of these games, and less people contributing to the new generations of FPS.

Feel free to comment or discuss or message or whatever, just wanted to share some of my thoughts. I'll do this occasionally, and most of the time don't expect it to be as gaming-related as this one is.
