Peterson Appeal Hearing Opens, To Resume Thursday

Peterson spoke for about 10 minutes but the 29-year-old rusher did not testify as a witness before arbitrator Harold Henderson, according to the league's website. Peterson was suspended on November 18 for at least the remainder of the NFL season after pleading no contest to a reduced charge to avoid jail time in the severe spanking of his four-year-old son. Peterson said that he spoke with Troy Vincent, the NFL executive vice president of football operations, and was told that he would receive a ban only for the games he had already missed if he met with NFL officials.
