Changing Crosshairs

How do you change cross hairs? Not the ones that come with the game, but using those sites that you can create a cross hair, I know how to create it, but how do I apply it in game? Do I use the console?

Really either way is doing the same exact thing. It'll probably be easier for the console method It'll still update in the cfg anyway.
