Not necessarily. Using scroll wheel on 1000aa is pretty hard.

I use a bind that automatically crouches me when I jump, and I use mousewheel. Usually do the standard bhop (AD strafe) but can also kind of bhop backwards and sideways.

Best way imo, so much easier than space bar but it takes a little getting used to.

Scroll wheel is most consistent way to bhop. Yes you can be good with spacebar, but having the luxury of scrolling gives more possibilities to continue bhopping even if you dont hit it perfectly.

Anyone who wants to get good at bhop well it's not easy at all, first what you want to do is go to a bhop server, hopefully HG makes one :3; then practice auto hopping, you first have to learn how to strafe, then wants you are confident in the strafing (A and D) move your mouse left for A, and move your mouse right for D) not if its too hard then go surf and try to strafe. Up to you. Then practice doing legit hop basically hopping without auto hop. Remember strafing to gain speed. After that still go on a bhop server, and practice strafing, and timing your hop (when you do legit hop). After a thousand hours of bunny hopping go on a death match, or casual server, and with that much time you should still suck at bhopping, and decide to go on a mini game server with auto hop or bhop server if your still willing to try to bhop. And remember to switch to scroll wheel, or space bar. Personally I use scroll wheel cuz it makes it easier and I'm a pussy. Lol
