Modern Warfare 2 Review (Because its 12:30 AM and I have a research paper due at 8am)

I got the game today and just felt like taking a little bit of time to express concerns and thoughts about the game from what I've seen.

First let me say it's pretty funny the first time you load up single player and a message comes up asking whether or not you'd like to skip a mission that some audiences may find offensive, probably the terror attack or the one with the cutscene of a mass murder of civilians(same thing? I don't know single player is for fags.)

Next I'll talk about multiplayer and initial impressions:

Lack of dedicated servers is definitely a minus in my eyes, but I also understand where they are coming from(as long as it's not the argument that it's a direct console port). With a game like Call of Duty matchmaking sometimes may be a preferred choice, for players on consoles matchmaking is all they know, and coming from consolses I don't necessarily see a problem with it from a gameplay standpoint.

I do not like the fact that

a) While random maps are good to know the game, once I've established a familiarity with the game and pick and choose what maps I prefer over others, I'd like to specifically play those. I'm not sure how well the party/specific game system works yet so maybe I'll be proven wrong, but if I want to play the same map all day long the matchmaking certainly stops me from doing that.

B) If an annoying Brit comes in and starts pooping out of his mouth about crumpets and tea I'm going to kill myself(play COD4 on Xbox Live for 10 minutes and try to tell me I'm lying.) Without admins hackers and annoying people get to slide right by,(inb4 BUT WAIT GUYS, VAC IS ON COD:MW2!!!).

c) In relation to the last one, P2P connections just aren't a good gaming experience, at all. 9v9 isn't fun on PC from what we've come to expect. D2DM is 9v9 at it's lowest traffic moments, it's just stupid.

**** Not related to PC multiplayer stuff is below :) ****

d) The ranking system seems overly simple. You get a ton of points for not doing much. Gone are the days of 10 points per kill in TDM, now it's outrageous like 100 points per kill, I haven't looked at the XP bar or requirements but it just seems like overhaul to give those kind of numbers.

e) The maps are mostly unbalanced, while spawn switching is still a part of the game every map I've played so far is always favoring one side. There are multiple examples of maps that have intense slopes in which one team spawns at the bottom of Mt. Everest and must hike up only to get pegged in the face with a stun grenade and have to do it all over again, until the opposing team gets bored they down there themselves and end up switching sides.

f) Deathstreak perks. 'Nuff said.

Enough on multiplayer for now, it was fun for the time I played it but doesn't have the same intensity that COD4 had yet.

Spec*Ops Mode

This is pretty fucking fun. It's not a campaign but it still has missions, this is something that certainly catches my eye. Co-Op campaigns are stupid(ask D3n or Koth about my Borderlands experience, or ask me cause I'm just chillin right here.) Spec Ops however is a series of "arcade-like" missions that pretty much require two people, you can complete the missions alone but that just highlights the fact that you are playing alone.(Oxymoron?)

I'm nearly done with the missions in Spec Ops on the first difficulty and by far the best mission is the one with snowmobiles. It takes the player completely out of the COD experience and puts them into a pure fun driving sequence for 1-2 minutes. Jetta and I played the same mission over and over at least 20 times just racing down a mountain(he never beat me FYI).

to add to this, the "offensive" material that swat mentioned is indeed when you commit a terrorist attack on an airport.

LULZ! Grow up people. MY SON DID A MISSION ON A VIDEO GAME IN WHICH HE BOMBED AN AIRPORT NOW HE'S 66.6%, REPEATING OF COURSE, MORE LIKELY TO PERFORM SUCH AN ACT IRL.

Do you not recall the 4 late teenagers that ran around like a game of GTA, and beat men and women with crowbars and hijacked 2 vehicles?

You didn't really explain much on the single player end, so I assume you didn't play through it much.

On COD4, I loved the AC130 mission and wish they had more like that. (hopefully they have one mission like that in MW2)

Also, I coulda swore that you said you were not going to buy this game. ;)

I am caught with a dilema, as I don't know if I want this on PC or on my console. :/

I am going to get one of them today though, for sure.

There's a AC130 mission on the Spec Ops thing that Jetta and I played, pretty fun. One guy is the plane gunner while he guides another guy on the ground to a designated extraction point. Single player is for fags.

Get it for PC so we can all play together.

Meh, I'll probably get it for console, I really enjoyed CoD4, and then CoD:WaW was kindof like a kick in the face. The last think I wanted after MW1 was to go back to WWII.

So anyway, WaW was the first (and last) CoD game I will EVER play on PC, and this IW.net is not raising the chances.

We already know VAC does not stop the most common types of hacks, (walls, speed, cvar bypass, consistency bypass, ESP) and that without admins, the whole VAC system FAILS.

Also, without dedicated servers, games just arent good with large numbers of people, without the high bandwidth of a professional server, your game=shit quality.
