like John said, its common that we'll ban accounts that got stolen ---- just until the real owner can reclaim it. it's nothing against you; it's against the person who stole the account. We especially do it if the account has admin privileges.

 

Also, it's so easy to verify your account. If somebody steals it, no changes can be made (passwords or secret questions, etc) unless they confirm it by typing in a code that's sent to the verified email address.

 

 

If your account isn't verified, the first thing the thief is going to do is verify it to his own email. Then you're REALLY screwed, unless you have proof of purchase to have valve get it back for you.

BTW, there is no "hacking" someone's steam account. People get their accounts stolen in 3 ways:

 

• they have a weak-ass password
  
• they have a keylogger or some similar backdoor malware installed on their PC
  
• they go to some website that LOOKS like steam, and enter their username and password.
  
  • ALWAYS check links that you receive in Steam Chat, even if it comes from a friend.
    
  • ^-- because it might not really be your friend on the other end, sending the link.
    
  • Make sure the link actually says "steampowered.com", and not "steampowered.com.cn" or something.
