Dr.jiggles
Hello, i had vista home premium 32 bit installed in my desktop, i did not register the os due to the fact that i couldnt since it was upgrade version and i didnt have any other os installed. I returned it and got window 7 home premium 32/64 bit, but i had previously downloaded 32 bit drivers so 64 bit wont install. Can someone tell me where i can locate the driver page or do i have to go looking for the specific drivers?

Guest The_Monkey
Format and re-install. +10sandviches You can't go from 32bit to 64bit. From the Windows 7 upgrade path at microsoft: Cross-architecture in-place upgrades (for example, x86 to x64) are not supported. vandium
Uhmmm how do you do that, im a noob sorry:push: I don't own Windows 7 at the moment. You should be able to do a clean install straight from the win7 cd. That should be an option, and it will tell you that you will lose everything and be clean installing windows. Make sure you back up anything on your HD that you don't want to lose. Because you lose it all with a format.
Clark
Can he do a clean install if it is just an upgrade disk? They pay diff prices for an upgrade vs. full os, don't they?

I didn't know that is what he got. He said he took it back, I thought he meant that as getting the new OS. If that is the case, then you have purchased the wrong software. You cannot upgrade from 32bit to 64bit. So if you had 32bit vista installed, you have to upgrade to 32bit win7. If you purchased the 64bit windows 7 UPGRADE, you are out of luck. (guessing) If you have the full version of win7, you have to format to use 64bit. Edited December 14, 2009 by vandium
Guest The_Monkey
If he boots from the disk, he might be able to upgrade to win7 x64....just a hunch. I need to find the chart with all of the possible upgrade paths. ***EDIT *** Okay, here is the chart of upgrade options: http://mossblog.allthingsd.com/files/2009/08/windows-upgrade-chart.png In place upgrades you start from within windows. For custom installations, put the disc in the drive, and reboot, and boot from the disc. From there choose custom installation, and format the drive when you get to the drive options screen (the help in that section should walk you through it). OK here is how it is i have the full version not the upgrade which has both 32 bit and 64bit inside, i put vista 32 bit but i never registered it so it got deleted completely from my harddrive after 30 days and the same will happen to the window 7 32bit, but i downloaded 32 bit drivers and 64 bit wont work because i have ONLY 32bit drivers and i need to find a place where the drivers are located so i can delete them but i cannot find them..... Wingless
Maybe I'm trying to oversimplify this a little too much, but if you just need valid 32 bit drivers, Windows update should knock 95% of those out, and the ones you're missing (video for example) you should get from the manufacturer's site. Windows update on 7 is leaps and bounds ahead of where it used to be. It sees you have new devices and makes a best effort try to pull down matching drivers. I haven't had it fail me yet. Boot from disk and format drives. This will remove all drivers and you should have no problems proceeding to install Windows 7. However I am unsure if there is an upgrade only disc and full version. When I done a clean install I just booted from disk.

WTF is this incoherent babble ??? Okay, here is what I am gathering...you have installed windows 7 32bit right now. You want to move to windows 7 64bit, but you don't have the drivers. You need the drivers so that when you do format and reinstall, your machine will work. Please clarify....no obfuscation, and run a grammar check please. RetiredTacos
Ummmm........why are you installing 64bit windows anyway? You only got 4 gigs of ram, ain't gonna do shit for you. The problem is not drivers, the problem is you are not booting from the CD into windows 7, you're trying to install windows from inside windows. You have to reformat your drive via the windows7 partition utility, others have already explained this from what I can see.

I literally just pulled all of my pubic hair out (cause I don't have any on my head)....aaaaaaargh!!!!!!! Dude, put the disc in the drive...mmmmk? Boot from the disc....mmmmmmk? Follow the instructions....mmmmmmmmk? You cannot put 64bit drivers in a 32bit install, so stop trying to delete them. If you want Windows 7 x64, then you need to do a fresh install, so just follow the instructions above. /Close this thread!
