Josh Young, 18, of Waverly, was pronounced dead at Waverly Health Care Center. Medics with Waverly ambulance and fire services also transported two other youths to the hospital. One was later airlifted to Iowa City. Waverly-Shell Rock Principal Ken Winter said the school will have counselors on hand starting today to help students and teachers. "Josh was a very good student, and he loved his golf and he had friends," Winter said. He said Young was personable, and teachers thought highly of him. He noted the school's golf team is scheduled to begin practice today. "It will hard for our whole school to pull together," Winter said. "There were a lot of people close to Josh." Bremer County sheriff's deputies said the crash happened at about 2:45 a.m. in the 1200 block of 240th Street, southwest of Waverly. No other vehicles were involved. Waverly police assisted at the scene. The investigation into the crash continues. Services are pending at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. http://www.kwwl.com/Global/story.asp?S=12179109 WAVERLY (KWWL) -- Sunday afternoon, about a dozen teens gathered at the site of a fatal rollover accident southwest of Waverly. 18 year-old Josh Young died in the crash and the driver was airlifted to Iowa City for treatment. Another passenger was treated at Waverly Health Center. By their own account, the news of Josh Young's death doesn't quite seem real for his friends. They're also pretty shook up about the condition of the two others in the car. So they stood together, along the side of the road, to talk and to remember. "It's devastating. They were really close friends with all of us, and it's just a horrible loss for Waverly, the community, and all the families involved," said Waverly-Shell Rock High School senior Jason Holthaus. High School Principal Ken Winter realizes it will probably hit home when the kids return to school Monday and Josh isn't there. "We are bringing in people from the community and in from the district to sit and talk with kids as they wish, especially in the morning. They may want to come out of their classes and talk," he said. One of the memories they're likely to talk about is how much Josh loved to play golf. His high school team was scheduled to have their first practice on Monday. Now, this initial meeting is certain to have a very different purpose. "We have a very close-knit school... missing a fine young man like Josh is going to make a great impact on our student body as well as our faculty," said Winter. What happened on the rural Waverly road will change how Holthaus remembers his senior year. But it won't change how he and his friends remember Josh. "His smile. Josh Young's smile would just brighten a room. He was so kind to everyone, all of his classmates. He was just a good guy all around. We loved him," he added. Josh's friends are asking everyone to wear white to school Monday. They've also created a Facebook website in his memory, which had hundreds of members in just the first few hours.
