Kamps
http://www.nordichardware.com/en/component/content/article/69-cpu--chipset/11257-intel-to-ship-out-48-core-cpus-to-universities.html Link speaks for itself! I would kill for one of these!
Siphaed
clock frequencies of 1.6GHz to 1.8GHz Per core? If that's so.....oh, I just sprung a woody! Damn, I can't imagine how much the retail version of these will cost. I'm guessing between $600-700 each, but then again you wouldn't have to upgrade your PC again for another 20 years! Koth
why? not like anything will use more than 2 cores...
Deag1e
not true koth i do folding on my computer and utalize all my cpu cores. That processor is basically for folding purposes. I mean wouldnt make a good video game rig since its low core clock and the power consumption is 25 to 125 watts. Check out the intel nahelem-ex. 8 core 24megs l3 cache. they built a server running 8 processors which have hyperthreading giving them basically 16 process per cpu totaling 128 threads. Don't forget about all of the Beowulf Cluster that have been built from PS3s that are used for number crunching for everything from protein data folding to password cracking. SayHelloRosco
1.6 to 1.8 GHz isn't very high. Unless it's per core like Siphaed said, then I'd shit bricks.
