Vodka
Some people feel that XP is more gaming friendly though if I were you, I would switch to vista just to try it out and upgrade to Windows 7 when you get used to it. I use a Mac so I particularly don't have much experience with the Microsoft operating systems.

Dan1
I'm still waiting on Win7. Vista has been pretty good to me for a while now, though.
Vodka
I just read up on the Windows Vista and Windows 7, Vista Ultimate is similar to 7 but just new platforming is placed.

BlessedBullets
People say W7 is just Vista in a different form.I still have XP, vista sucked on all 3 different computers as far as surfing the internet, and gaming goes. Only my brother's pc has 7 and it seems to run pretty well, maybe that's because his is fairly new, but he also does nothing other than play WoW all day so. XP works for me,
Wingless
Ignore any salmon-colored posts above Soap. If your computer can handle it, I'd go with 7. Also, it's been out of beta and RC for a while now, so make sure you end up with a full version of the OS. It's leaps and bounds ahead of Vista in pretty much every way. Also, please, please, please don't run an upgrade; do a clean install. You're just asking for problems with OS upgrades. P.S. - 7 is "not like Vista". People that say it is will be subject to public flogging with cat-o-cat5-tails. Edited April 20, 2010 by Wingless

c00k1em0nst3r
I personally think you should keep XP. I'm not a fan of Windows 7 because it reminds me of Macs...and I'm not a big fan of Macs
Vodka
Ah but Macs are awesome (my opinion) though I get how you feel, I get frustrated with it sometimes.

Vodka
I mean, the reboot timing is really slow but the overall performance compensates for that.
SayHelloRosco
Vista isn't SO bad. But from what I hear, Win7 is much faster than Vista, and feels much more "finished" than Vista.
Moto
I never have had any issue with Vista. And at the Win 95 comment, my dad still has an original 95 install cd laying around somewhere. I saw it when I was helping him move half a year ago, so it has been a while.
RetiredTacos
Windows 7 is better than vista, main prefetching and memory usuage was fixed as it was horrible in vista. If you have the hardware to run it, windows 7 will be just fine. Most the NEWER games are optimized for vista/7 so there the performance gains from running windows xp are dwindling fast.
