RetiredTacos
Neither, MSI has been doing better lately but I personally would still stay away from them for now. The Crosshair IV is expensive because it's intended use is 3x video cards. Do you plan on doing that? The GX series is fantastic, the FX will get you a tad more overclocking and the extra lanes for triple video cards. But if you don't plan on doing max effort overclocking and not running more than two video cards, then GX series is great, plus it does not have the premium price tag. (+200$) If not I'd step down to one of these. If I was to build an AMD rig today, it'd probably use the gigabyte myself, but I'm positive you'll like the ASUS as well. I like the gigabyte for the familiar bios and the SATA ports are on the side and looks much cleaner when things are plugged in. Asus M489GTD - Newegg.com - ASUS M4A89GTD PRO AM3 AMD 890GX HDMI SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard Gigabyte 890GPA UD3H - Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H AM3 AMD 890GX HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard Ram isn't a huge difference between the types, 1066-1600mhz there is very little performance difference. I'd probably go with these Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL8D-4GBRM
Cefdinir
There are more 890FX options coming: Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5 ASUS M4A89TD Pro (non-Crosshair [cheaper]) to name a couple. List of Known AMD 890FX Motherboards - Industry News - Overclockers Club Also the ASUS M489GTD that Terry posted does not support USB 3.0 but this one does: Newegg.com - ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 AM3 AMD 890GX HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard Adds just a little bit more future-proofing (oxymoron i know).
