Siphaed
Hello, I'd just like to put this out there as a semi-friendly suggestion to get those eligible HG members (16+) to give blood when they can. Blood is what's considered a "renewable resource", as your body creates new blood over the month and half period by using protein (meats, beans, etc) and water you take in. Do you have a relative or friend who's gotten into a serious accident or injury of some kind? Maybe instead has a disease like cancer or HIV or what not? Eventually most of those cases requires a blood transplant and using donated blood to replace that which they lose (or to clean out bad blood). You're helping them by providing donated blood, whether or not it's a matching type, you're helping the system that helps them. Just consider it and it'll also make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. P.S. For those afraid of needles/blood, you can be looking the other way the entire time and honestly you cannot feel a thing. P.P.S. There are places that allow you to donate your blood and request it banked for yourself for future use. Maybe selfish, I don't know....but, it's an option. Guest The_Monkey
I tried, they wouldn't take it. They said my heart "wasn't strong enough", even though I asked my doctor, and he said they were full of shit. Also, the Florida Blood Centers are going through some serious financial fiasco fraudulent shit right now....so f them.

c00k1em0nst3r
I tried to give blood once and failed. They came to our school and all the seniors got to give blood, so I stood in line...got to skip to classes for it so half of my day was free...but after i got through all the screening and what not, my veins were to small. Epic fail. & morally, I don't give blood anymore even if my veins were bigger...just because one of my really good gay friends couldn't give blood..actually any gay man can't give blood. so if they can't, I can't. I have similar moral concerns. Their basis for the ban makes sense in theory (if 1 in 5 gay men are HIV+...) but that same logic applied would also mean that all black people should be banned from giving blood. That would go over well. Virtually every reputable medical organization says the FDA doesn't have proper scientific grounds to ban gays from giving blood, but they're not budging. Even reducing the disqualification terms from "ever" to "one year since last contact" is a lifetime ban. "Well, if you're not gay for a year, I guess you can give blood." c00k1em0nst3r
In theory, yes I would agree..but the basis behind it is that HIV/AIDS is seen as a "gay" disease. Today, evidence has shown that it isn't but it's that classic stereotypical view that many hold today. Plus, homosexuality is, in my opinion, a nature factor not nurture. I say this because if I had the choice, I would be straight. No one wants to live a life of inequality. But, despite all this..i say, go and give blood! it's always good. In Lubbock, alot of people give plasma...just cause it's more money and college kids are broke. lol

Being a gay male doesn't damn you to AIDS any more than being a bottle of Mountain Dew damns you to being drank by a white college student. All in all, donating blood is a good thing. Not half bad money for what is effectively a renewable resource anyway. Edited April 30, 2010 by Wingless

Wingless
Do they still disqualify you for awhile if you have been out of the country? I think I am past the time frame but not sure. Yes, but it depends on a couple of factors. Best check the disqualification list.

Papa John
P.S. For those afraid of needles/blood, you can be looking the other way the entire time and honestly you cannot feel a thing. While they do "numb" the area around where they are sticking the needle, you can still feel it. Edited May 1, 2010 by Papa John
Wingless
While they do "numb" the area around where they are sticking the needle, you can still feel it. Topical anesthetic? Pussies. I'm pretty sure that's rubbing alcohol. Sterility is a good thing. Both for needles AND some people when it comes to reproduction.
