Is it bad that the only thing that irritated me about the article was the misrepresentation of the word "hack"?

It's not hacking when the owner is a dipshit and leaves the default password on the box. Also, public Facebook pages has made it a lot easier for the media to quote the proverbial guy in overalls chewing on a wheat shoot talking about how he "seen them aliens" last night and his ass hurts.

The media makes me sad :(

(Also, I lol'd at the sign)

It's just more people pissed off with the AZ law and trying to "riot" against it to try to prevent it from going national. Oregon already has a potential bill in the works that's a mirror to the AZ law, and one of the potential Mayors/Governors stated that he was going to for sure directly pass it as his first thing into office if elected.

I agree with the bill, sorry, but I do. As of around the end of 2008/beginning of 2009, we had over 8+ million illegal immigrants in the U.S. using up resources (government programs, Medicare, and so on) without contributing much at all (if any at all) to the system through taxes, S.S., or so on. And, what's worse is when they start working in this country and send large portions of the money made out of the country instead of spending it in the country, which assists in crippling the economy (it's like outsourcing, practically).

Political...urge....rising...

We have more legal residents using programs illegally than we do immigrants using them.

First off, your numbers are wrong. Numbers in 08/09 were around 11 million (Mexican Immigrants: How Many Come? How Many Leave? - Pew Hispanic Center).

Secondly, this bill isn't going to decrease immigration to the U.S. People are still willing to risk coming here. The only thing the bill will do is reduce the amount of crimes and illegal activities reported, create incorrect census counts, and cause immigrants to be even less likely to gain asylum/residency, resulting in even less tax revenue.

As for money going in and out of the country, I hope you realize that the law will increase circular migration, not decrease it, which will result in more money being transferred out of the country.

Illegal immigrants who have made permanent residency here are more likely to keep their money earned in the U.S., because what money they do have generally goes towards necessities(which are taxed btw).

Circular migration will be safer than permanent residency if the law goes into effect. In addition, with circular migration rising, illegal immigrants will travel shorter distances to find work, which will have them taking root in border states like, oh, I don't know, Arizona.

Also, let's not forget the fact that the law opens up a giant floodgate for civil lawsuits that will inevitably hit the courts should this law remain on the books. Civil lawsuits against the state and federal government. Guess who pays for those? Taxpayers. Any time a legal U.S. citizen is detained because of this law, there is a good chance there will be a multi-million dollar lawsuit that will be footed by tax money.

This law isn't good for anyone or anything. The only thing it commits to is attempting to create a feeble cover for racial profiling. How many illegal Russian immigrants do you think will be detained as a result of this bill? Irish immigrants? How about British immigrants?

It's poorly thought out, poorly enacted and in general poor taste. This is not the way to go about curbing immigration. The only thing this law will do is increase the amount of crime that goes unreported, increase circular migration(which in turn increases revenue sent outside the U.S.), increase racial profiling lawsuit activity (costing taxpayers money), and reduce the amount of immigrants attempting to gain permanent, legal residency.

I've honestly never seen a stupider governing body that what Arizona currently has elected.

TL;DR - I agree with the concept, but I think the execution is stupid.

In practice, it makes sense to reduce the amount of illegals, but this also requires the borders to be more secure and our citizenship process to be less anal. If they wanted to reduce the appearance of profiling, they would ask for papers from everyone they see, but that is also going to strike a rather familiar chord.
