Gulf of Mexico Oil Leak

Recommended Posts

What do you guys think about it? Its pretty fucked up how all this is happening just to put a few gallons of gas in our cars...PBS has a live video showing the leak...here the link: YouTube - PBSNewsHour's Channel

An hour ago that little area was clean. Now look at it.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a link about it:

Yea there are people down here that are getting temporary jobs to clean up under contract with BP. The temp employees make more money in one day than most people on the Gulf Coast make in one week.

Guess BP will pay anything for help to clean this up...

I think people should go back to bikes, instead of being fat asses. And maybe if people got exercise they wouldn't get FAT. OMG KNOWLEDGE!?

people are fat because of the shit food we eat and all the other health problems that are caused by the shit food we eat

everything is fucked!!!

there is no fixing anything, we won't ever get off of oil until its all gone, big oil companies control politicians too much

People aren't fat because of "shit food", people are fat because they're too stupid to realize that 5k calories a day is too many without some type of exercise.

Not using fossil fuels for most purposes is currently uneconomical, so that's a moot point.

Generally speaking, the traditional American serving size is almost twice (in some cases, more than twice) the typical serving size found in most other countries. Try going to Europe sometime. You won't see the Denny-style "Huge fucking bucket of eggs and meat" anywhere on their menus.

Like Wingless said, Americans have been hardwired to overconsume. It's a part of our society to demand bigger portions, and it's an increasingly dangerous trend.

As for the Gulf leak, it's a shame as what's happening. But, I will admit, BP (so far) hasn't been like Exxon (what leak? I DON'T SEE A LEAK, AND NEITHER DO YOU, FUCKER), and have been pretty good about owning up to some responsibility, even going as far as to pay out claims made by fisherman, and even made a fund set aside in case the oil isn't cleaned up by Hurricane season, and the oil whips around across the seaboard.

What boggles me is the Republicans who are slamming the Obama administration about Ecological relief (and the lack thereof). These are the same men, who, under Bush, voted to eliminate the funding of Superfund, weaken regulatory agencies and practices (I think everyone owes it to themselves to see Mountaintop Removal), and pretty much dismantle all policies regulating safety and disposal methods.

What irks me the most is these are the same neocon warhawks who GAWKED when Obama wanted to hand over more regulatory power to the EPA and other agencies.

Though it saddens me that this tragedy had to occur, maybe it'll open up some eyes to the fact that we can't let environmental concerns go out the window, even in an economic crisis.

but most of our livestock is pumped full of stuff to make them bigger so that they provide more meat. but it also makes them fatter. example, the chicken we eat today has like 3 times as much fat and like half the protein. Thats 3 times more bad stuff and half the good stuff, thats what im talking about the shit food. also stuff like HFCS is worse for you than sugar because it has more calories. And fast food is a HUGE part of our society. You guys are right tho, we are taught to eat more and our portion sizes are massive.

most of the stuff they have in europe is natural/organic. The fact that the word organic is used so much in food disgusts me... that means we are eating fake stuff. The fact that organic is more expensive is also disgusting.. especially in this economy. Because shit food is cheaper, families tend to buy the cheap stuff that makes them unhealthy. It costs money to be healthy.

And yes exercise is a very good thing, everyone should do it. But eating right is the easiest and most affective way to lose weight

so wait , the well is not leaking im stumped by when it says " deepwater horizon sinks. authorities say 1-by-5 mile sheen is from the original explosion, and no oil is leaking from the well." is this a cover up or can no one get the story right.

Last confirmed reports stated that they were trying to cover the well with mud and have gravity plug the well.

They should just stick some explosives down as far as they can and blow that shit up. You could get rock shelves to collapse and seal the deal.

Or if they used a mud/concrete mixture from the beginning...

Or possibly carefully sink a barge with the bottom of the hull cut and sealed up top to catch all the oil...outfit the barge with a pipe system to extract it. Or sink it and cover it with cement lul.

Over What? Its an American Company losing Oil, why would any other countries care?

Erm, BP is based in Westminister. Either way, it doesn't really matter. One company's stupidity isn't really cause for war. Well, at least in this case.

And then fuck up tectonic plates, resulting in mass earthquakes....

I live on the eastern seaboard, we don't really need a new fault line, kthx.

IM FROM New Orleans and I'd just thought id add my voice here since we get more info about this then everyone else does I immagine. Fixing the problem is more complicated then it seams. The Pipe coming off the BOP (blow off preventer) is broken in multiple spots, to slow the flow, the end where it broke from the rig is kinked, but kinking it caused ruptures further down. The plan was to cut the pipe right over the BOP, but then you'd get all 25,000+ PSI rushing through the pipe which would make it really hard to stop. The dispercents mearly make the oil sink to the bottom and the whole pump mud and sand into the pipe wont work cause when the BOP finally fails all the pressure rushing through the well will cause the sand and minerals in the mud to scrape away at the insides of the pipe and basically erode it away."

I got all this info from my dad who worked on oil rigs for like 15 years. I'm pretty sure this is correct to a point. I might have misinterpreted some facts though.
