Lol less performance? Nub.

 

Transistors do the calculations, so less transistors = less calculations that can be done. This is why transistor counts go up through out the years.

Die shrinks allow for more transistors in less space.

You can go smaller without sacrificing performance.

 

They lowered the transistor count so it would hold less heat. They just mapped it different ;)

All things point to the 975 has the same transistor count as a 920. The 980x has a higher transistor count because 32nm manufacturing was used. It has six cores but per core, it still has more transistors then the 45nm i7s.
