I know CS3, but I'm not that into teaching away things. Find it kind of hard doing it over the internet. Though I can recommend a sett of DVDs that help allot with Photoshop. Photoshop Topsecret is a set of 4 DVDs where they go through special effects, making posters etc. Take a look at the sight :) Other then that you might find using After Effects interesting to. You have not mentioned it, but you can add lots of awesome effects and make cool intros with it. Video Copilot helped me allot getting started with it.

Is it worth upgrading to cs5 from cs4? are there any new features? did they add more shortcuts?

There are ALLOT of new features, but it is really up to you. Will you even use them? Most things can even be done in CS3 :P Go on the internet (youtube) and watch their trailers/demonstrations :)
