Actually if I recall correctly, it was more along the lines of "I am Steve Jobs, I say Flash is dumb and I hate it therefore everyone else must hate it too. All hail Steve Jobs, King of the Ninth Circle." Of Course Ballmer was like "OH NO HE DINT!" Then, chaos ensued.

Wingless
Smartphones in general=Dumb wastes of money. My friend just bought a $435 phone. And I was like whats the fucking point? You're a dumb waste of money. I think this arbitrary statement holds more weight than your arbitrary statement. Let me do math for you. When I bought my Nexus One, I bought it unlocked for $530 dollars. You may think this is a lot of money (and it is) but the math fully supports my purchase. The subsidized phone is $170 dollars with a 2 year commitment. I believe the plan on that commitment was an 80 dollar plan, which works out to about 95 dollars a month, give or take. My current plan is (almost) out of contract and runs something like 60 dollars a month (which is about 72 a month after fees) for an almost identical plan to the subsidized one. 95*24=2,280 72*24=1,728 The difference between the two plans alone is $552, which effectively pays for the phone itself in savings by not taking the subsidized plan. Many plans are exactly like this. You pay less money up front and get hit on the back end every month to pay for the phone. You're getting deep dicked one way or the other, so if you can afford it, you can cut your monthly payments down by making the purchase up front. Due to his crappy network, im surprised bill gates hasn't taken over and destroyed apple by now. What are you even talking about?

Did you just compare the cost of a phone with a contract? For starters not all contracts are the same (Obviously), secondly you math is correct, with one exception. Your neglecting to include the Data contract which effectively increases your bill two fold. Now while you don't "have to" purchase this, is for the most part a mute point. Your for all intensive purposes "need' the data contract to use the phone. Case and Point.

Now while you don't "have to" purchase this, is for the most part a mute point. Your for all intensive purposes "need' the data contract to use the phone. Case and Point. Are you serious? In a good number of examples, purchasing the phone through the carrier requires you to buy the phone AND the contract (plan) that comes with the phone, which SUBSIDIZES the cost of the phone to make up for the CARRIER selling the phone at a lower cost to you. As with anything, this is not a 100% rule, but it is the industry standard for popular phones. Think of it as a loan for the phone. And you are wrong about me not including the data plan. Both plans in question include unlimited data, messaging and roughly the same voice plan. In fact, I don't know of any "easy way" to purchase a smart phone without a data plan. It would be silly to try since an iPhone without data is pretty much an iTouch and an Android phone without data doesn't sync with any integral applications. Also, you said "mute point" and "case and point", which invalidates anything you had to say that may have been valid. There wasn't, but if there had been... The point was that spending a ton of money up front isn't necessarily a bad thing. Teen's friend may have purchased a phone for $430 and not have gained anything from it, but there is typically a good reason to drop the cost of the phone up front instead of having it subsidized. I saved several hundred dollars over 2 years because of this.
