Hajmahkra
So I was thinking about the prices of cars, and I realized that if a car has 200hp and the average cost of a horse is $200, wouldn't it be around 40,000? If so, cars would be a fucking great deal. For example the 2011 Ford Mustang has 412hp, and with horses being $200/ea, 412*200 = 82,400. But the Mustang starts at 22,145, so is it a great deal? Or am I just high?

Cab00se
That is by far the dumbest logic. But I will let it slide since you are 13 and do not yet know how the real world functions. <3 My Corolla has 120hp and I will be damned if I pay over 20grand for it. But hey if this a thread about possible options for your first car please do ask. I am free to give advice and opinions.
Cr(+)sshair
I rather go by how many horses you can hit and kill. Take your cars horsepower, times it by $200, then divide by 3 and there. That's how many horses you can run over.
Gracefail<3
If you want something that keeps going really fast in the same direction, I hear good things about Toyota.

Cab00se
Where'd ya get that formula? Suggestions are most welcome. Well first things first. Dont get a brand new out of the factory car. Because 85% you or someone will wreck the car. And that will suck ass. First car is meant to be cheap and reliable. Then it comes down to personal preference. Do you want a nice little coupe, or maybe a decent size saloon to take your friends around. Does it have to be quick or can it be slow. What kind of gas mileage are you looking for. Then you have to work in insurance and funds for the car: gas/maintenance/etc. As for me when I got my license first thing I had to do was find a job after school. Money from the job was used for my insurance and gas. My first car was a 1989 Toyota Cressida. This car was a 4dr saloon with comfortable interior and nice engine[inline 6]. This car was great when I started driving. Gas was just about to peak over 2 dollars so gas was not much of an issue. Not saying you need to by this exact car. But soon enough after a year and half of owning it I was rear ended by a jerk off who made an illegal left turn. A few examples that I can think of that fit a 4dr that is realistically cheap. But if you want feel free to look at the later generations of these cars too. Just dont look too far into the past. By default I think this model Accord is a really strong first car. But when I was looking for cars this was still pricey considering they were 3-4 old and considered "new." But now they are reasonably priced and can be really reliable. Plus they have a Coupe version too. And are offered in 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder engines. Estimated price range 1997-2000 Accord $2600-3500. Almost a tie between the Accord and this model Toyota Camry. Offered only in 4dr saloon. This car is pretty much carbon copy of the Accord. Reliable, cheap, and fuel efficient. Estimated price range for a 1997-1999 Camry $2500-3200. This is a smaller 4dr available by Toyota. The Toyota Corolla despite how small it looks is actually quite comfy on the inside. I have 2 friends who have/had own one of these. They were their first cars and are still running strong. Decent size motor with really good gas mileage. Estimated price range 1996-2001 Corolla $2000-2800. Like I said before you can find older models of these cars mentioned above for somewhat cheaper prices. But just beware that older cars can end up with much more problems. That is why I am recommending some "somewhat" older model vehicles. These are some of the most advertised used cars for sale. I couldnt really think of some other market 4drs. A few that come to mind is the Dodge Neon, Ford Focus, Chevy Malibu, Nissan Sentra and Nissan Maxima. But for some reason they seem to get overshadowed by the aforementioned cars. Next up are some coupes/hatchbacks. Something that might get you some girls. ;D **Warning in Advance** I am not recommending a V6 Mustang or V6 Camaro/Firebird. Because when I was in highschool and learning how to drive. And observational note that I made to myself. All girls drive V6 Mustangs and they are wrecked to hell. Most have been wrecked within the first couple of months. My sister for example too. And for some reason guys who owned V6 Camaros/Firebird think they are the hottest shit on the face of the Earth. And just tried to race everything that moved. 2 guys from my school put them in ditches trying to be "cool." Another wrapped on around a tree during holiday break. Im not sure what it is that causes this. But I think before you get one of these or at least man up for the V8(Kinda glad that they didnt have V8's because I seen the stories of kids with V8's on the new. Life expectancy is at -25%). At least put a good amount of knowledge/experience and miles under your belt. So that aside here are a few coupes/hatchbacks that I think make a good first car. Honda Civic/Acura Integra. I know that all the ricer kids drive these and think they are cool. Those guys are just as bad as the V6 guys I mentioned before. But if you can find one not raped by stupid aftermarket parts and hasnt been driven like a Formula 1 car. Then you can be in rally good shape. They are pretty much the bread and butter of anyones first car. Im sure you can even get a "newer" model for a good price too. Estimated price range 1996-2000 Civic/Integra $2000-3000. **A personal note from me. If someone is trying to sell it for more than $3500 because it has "these mods and such." Simply move on. Some other coupes/hatchbacks off the top of my head that just kinda scratch the surface. [Just getting lazy right now.] -Ford Focus ZX3 Hatchback -Chevy Cavalier or Cobalt -Toyota Celica -Volkswagon Golf -Hyundai Tiburon -Mazda Miata -Scion tC/xA/xB -Corvette ZR1 Well I dont know these are just some suggestions. But feel free to ask more detailed or specified request. Maybe you dont want any of these. Maybe you want a truck or SUV. Hell you may even want a crossover. fox*
you pretty much just better off getting a car that you can buy cheap parts for in case the car or truck messes up. i prefer a Chevrolet to be honest

60Seconds
Nobody pays per horses. Your parents aren't gonna get you a Mustang. You know what the insurance rates on that for teenagers are right? I was freakin 24 with no accident history and had freakin huge insurance rates on a new BMW M3. My Jeep Wrangler has huge rates too. So unless your parents can beef up a lot of cash I suggest instead of getting a mustang for 22k, get a used Mercedes S55 AMG. You can get a 2002 model for about that much and you get tons more features and safety ratings. You get a lot of power too. It has a supercharged V-8. But listen unless you are gonna go racing that power is useless.

piscian
the type of car you get isnt as important as how it goes. [video=youtube;eSOSJ68xOBA] On a more serious note when I bought my last car I just googled for most common cars and car parts in the US. I ended up getting a 2004 Chevy Cavalier S for pretty cheap. Parts for those are dime a dozen.

Lol I want to know why do you think cars are in the shop every week? Cause the car wont break down if the Owner maintains it. It is that simple. I have seen cars that run like the first day they been bought yet have 250,000+ miles. It is all owner fault cause if you take care of the car it will always start on the first try. My "POS unreliable cheap turd chevy" that I drive 500 miles a week costs me gas and oil every 5000 miles. The only thing I've had to replace in the past 25,000 miles was a wheel bearing and spark plug wires (A grand whopping total of 200$)
