Freaking FAIL.

I got my laptop through a scholarship with Texas Tech. Well they downloaded IE7 and norton onto my laptop. I hate IE so I just downloaded firefox and I've used it ever since. Now I've got some virus on my laptop where the ads from IE don't show up but the sound does with them...I downloaded Malwarebytes and it did a full scan twice so far..and it found something both times, but it's never been able to get it off.. Now when I try to download AVG it freaking freezes at the download manager screen cause it freezes when it tries to figure out connectivity. WTF.

Needless to say, I am a HORRIBLE computer person. and I can't figure out how to fix it...sooo, you might not see me playing much anymore until like a month from now when I'm back in Lubbock and IT services can fix it...Unless one of ya'll know what to do. -____-

Do the below two things in SAFE MODE to avoid file in use errors. None of these things are dangerous or risky if you follow them exactly.

Press F8 repeatedly when you turn your computer on and you'll get the safe mode screen.

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/maintenance/ht/manualtempvista.htm

Go here. Delete cookies and delete files in IE options.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/using/howto/customizing/clearcache.mspx

Then run malware bytes and see if it finds anything. If not you might try Ad-Aware

If neither of those things work you're in for a more difficult time. Likely it's virus or malware in your system 32 folder and you will need a virus scanner to identify it.
