Campaign

There's a lot in the campaign that took me by surprise, especially unit upgrades. There are no in game unit upgrades, besides weapons and armor, and they persist through the campaign. The variety of units available and the different level setup makes me feel like I have so many different options in approaching the level, even if I really don't.

With that said, the levels usually seem sluggish, even on fastest. Multiple times I've just said to myself "Wow, I still have to do how much more?". 26 or 28 missions total, and I'm only on the 10th. Normal mode difficulty is easy, and hard is normal.

Multiplayer Melee

Not much has changed since beta, and I'm not going to comment on how the flow of melee works. Apart from that, there are a good amount of new maps, with 9 maps available for each mode of 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3. 6 maps are available for 4v4.

Multiplayer Custom

This is really the major reason I bought this game. I played custom maps in Warcraft 3 since it came out, and the new map editor in the beta looked very promising. Unfortunately, all (from what I've seen) of the custom mode maps have broken lobby teams. This results in a 4v4 map becoming 5v3. Since this superior and well thought out custom map list is so perfect, there is no way to actually change the team setup. Custom mode maps are completely unplayable.

F***. I'm in houston right now and the only thing I have been looking forward to is playing custom maps when o get home to Austin. Thank you so much you just saved me money!

I'm sure it's either something blizzard will fix on their end, or it's something simple the map maker needs to do to update their map. Just as of right now, campaign and melee are the only things that work.

Yeah but the way you described it....just made me think it's just an average game. I waited a long time for sc2 and for it to fail me would be terrible. Not to mention in order to really keep playing I'm going to have to buy 2 more 60 dollar games.

Finished the campaign early this morning. absolutely loved it! cant wait for the zerg one.... its gonna be called Heart of the swarm. There were some awesome twists in the storyline. Just be warned only upgrade the units you are going to be using. wasted a lot of credits on worthless shit

I'm about a dozen missions into the campaign after installing yesterday and I'm fairly impressed so far. I think the missions will have pretty significant replay value, even if you ignore the fact that we'll all be achievement whoring just for the hell of it. Whereas I remember the missions in the original pretty much being skirmishes with plot mixed in, save for the few complex missions, all of the missions in the WOL campaign have their own unique twist on them.

I was a little concerned that I missed a ton of stuff in the second round of the beta (I didn't play during it) since my first reaction on mission 1 was "WTF, medics?" but I get the impression that there are just a ton of special units for single player.

The unit/upgrades meta stuff between missions is pretty cool. It adds additional immersion to an already immersive environment, even if some of the dialogue is kind of bad.

My favorite mission so far is probably the infestation burning mission with the 4 minute night and day cycles. It kind of feels like you're being overrun with zombies and legions of firebats and medics are holding them back.

I haven't touched multiplayer yet, but I kind of know what I'm getting into already.

I'm not sure I wouldn't buy the game based on one other persons opinion. Personally, I enjoyed campaign mode more than the Half Life series. The multiplayer is also really fun too, I still think you should buy it, definitely worth the money
