ChosenOne54
So, it’s old news now. Modern Warfare 2 is one of the highest selling games ever made. Personally, I congratulate Infinity Ward for their success. While COD has never really appealed to me that much PERSONALLY, it’s clear that it has become a global phenomenon, even surpassing the previous juggernauts, Half-Life and Halo, with thousands of players logging in every day to deliver the ends of their knives to the chests of players around the world. The COD franchise has always been a very successful franchise. But what do these statistics mean for the gaming industry? Well, as I’ll explain, it has had a huge impact on other games after it. Let’s go back to 2005 and 2006. Back then the industry was full to the brim with World War 2 shooters. There were very few modern days ones. While WWII was great for a while, it was seriously starting to get old. Then, in 2007 came a Godsend. Infinity Ward ditched took the COD franchise, and moved it from WW2 to the modern day. Cod4 took players to new locales, and expanded the boundaries of what to see in a military game. It was an intense experience, which many people still play today. People assumed that Cod4 was exactly the jolt the industry needed. Maybe games would follow Cod4’s example, and come up with new ideas? Well, that is not exactly the case. Look around you now. The number of modern day military shooters is astounding. Medal of Honour, Battlefield: Bad Company 1 and 2, Blacklight: Tango Down, Modern Warfare 2, the list goes on. Games have been copying off of the COD franchise, to try and steal some popularity. The result is that, in the past few years, games have resorted to copy-pasting the same over and over again. Developers have once again, similar to the WW2 era, started spewing out repetitive monotonous crap in an attempt to sell more games. Look at the FEAR series. FEAR 1 was an excellent game; I say this having played it on my friend’s Xbox. Look at the trailers for FEAR 3. Iron sights, co-op, regenerating health (I could be wrong on this.) Remind you of a certain military franchise? Too many games are copying off of Call of Duty. While COD is a good series… we REALLY need new and innovative ideas. Seriously developers. Stop copying other games, and start making your own ideas. That brings us to the end of my rant. I hope you enjoyed
Rapt0r J3sus
its like that with everything. music; when the first grunge/punk bands popped up like nirvana, all the music produces shit themselves in attempt to copy this scheme. technology; PCs come out with more and more creativity-based software. Apple monopolizes on the idea and Ta-da. we have the notebook macs. phones; touch screens. do i even have to go into this one?
Prospekt
Indeed, it is ridiculous...... MW2 was a fun game to play when it came out, I'm just surprised at the people that are STILL playing it religiously. Only games I can play repetitively are by Valve...well... there's a few others. I go by publisher's and developer's, such as Square Enix. I'll play anything they produce and so on............
Chicken Wings
Funny that Battle Field 2 came out BEFORE Modern warfare and a lot of elements from that game went into Modern warfare.
