blazedd
Its a brave new world out there, but while there are plenty of cool new sites that let you get information about your account or embedding cool things to your myspace (joke) you need to watch out to see what is real and what is a fake. Oauth If you are a programmer or know anything about web APIs you know of a thing called Oauth. If you don't, here is the rundown: You are on Website A, but you are logging in with the account from Website B. Rather than input the login creds into Website A you click on a link, it takes you to Website B, you login, and it takes you back to Website A and viola you are logged in. This eliminates the need for you to use steam login creds at any other site other than https://steamcommunity.com. What Does Outh give the website? This gives the site basic information about your account: username, steam ID, vanity url, games, account age, and more. This won't give out your email or your password. You are safe using this method. The Button It looks like this. This isn't a requirement, but make sure you are clicking on a button and not just logging in directly. What to Look for The url when logging into steam's site NEEDS to meet the following criteria: 1. URL in Browser MUST have an SSL Certificate signed by Steam AND will be at https://steamcommunity.com Most browsers like Chrome will tell you more about the SSL Certificate and help you ensure it is valid. THESE ARE NOT VALID. Chrome and Firefox will give you a nice warning if your SSL isn't signed correctly. 2. The Website you are coming from will be on the login page twice to ensure you know what site you are giving access to your information. Ask your friends, HG Members, and even me if you are unsure! Questions or did I miss anything? Post it below!

enigma#
There's one secret to know for not getting hacked In all seriousness, ttaM is correct. Common sense will prevail (hopefully)! If your gut tells you no, don't do it... well maybe if you're being propositioned by Grizzly, Clark, or Faded (all three too I guess)... that's a completely different story... <3 Edited December 4, 2010 by enigma#
