In bra, panties and wheelchair, woman goes through Oklahoma City airport screening this morning

A woman who passed through security at Oklahoma City's Will Rogers World Airport in a wheelchair and her underwear missed her flight Tuesday, and she said TSA denied her boarding. A TSA spokeswoman wouldn't say if the woman was denied by TSA employees.

 

A woman who missed her flight at Will Rogers World Airport Tuesday when she showed up in a wheelchair, bra and panties, passed through the airport screening process this morning and has left the city.

 

 

Tammy Banovac, clad in undergarments and sitting in a wheelchair, failed to pass the Transportation Security Administration screening process Tuesday when security officers detected traces of nitrates on her wheelchair.

 

Airport spokeswoman Karen Carney said the issue was resolved this morning and Banovac, 52, caught her flight out of the city at 7 a.m. after going through screening without incident.

 

Banovac did show up at the airport this morning in her wheelchair wearing her bra and panties again, Carney said. But Banovac had a change of clothes that she put on after being screened, Carney said.

 

She boarded her flight to Phoenix without incident. Carney said Banovac also had a dog with her, who left on the same flight.

 

Tuesday night Banovac said she chose to wear her underwear because of an unpleasant experience two weeks ago at airport security. She is typically hand-searched at airports because she uses a wheelchair, she said, and she felt violated by the more invasive searches employed at airports recently.

 

“If it happened anywhere else, it would have been sexual assault.â€Â

 

Banovac said she was trying to board a flight to Phoenix on Tuesday when she was pulled aside at security for a more thorough search.

 

She said TSA employees told her equipment detected traces of nitrates, which are used in bombs, on her clothing and luggage. She said a TSA supervisor told her to leave the airport and “come back tomorrowâ€Â after more than an hour of hand searches and questioning.

Seems kinda ridiculous that the TSA hounds someone in a wheelchair like that. But very creative way to basically tell them to shut up and leave ya alone, and definitely didn't need the body scanner there.

I personally drive myself (went from Lawton to Vegas and back only 20 some odd hours of driving), have flown before but was 14 and sad to say that was 16 years ago, all the crap going on now is retarded. Wish the Gov would get their heads straight and kill off air travel in the us and get some high speed trains. Be better off that way, a train can crash too but not fly into a building.

Is it just me or did the woman seem really creepy? Anyway I fly constantly for work. As long as you dont travel like a dickhead no one bothers you. t-shirt jeans take everything METAL OFF YOU AND PUT IT IN YOUR GODDAMN BAG.

 

Take you laptop shoes and belt and put it all in one container.

 

Organize your backbag/luggage. I had one instance where I had a shitton of cables and electronics shoved all mishmash in my bag. They took EVERYTHING out piece by piece and scanned my laptop by hand 5 times. Ever since I always put everything in seperate pockets neat and tiddy haven't had an issue since.

 

Quickest TSA trip ever was Washington DC of all places. Easy as cake. 5minutes if that. Longest most annoying security was in Frankfort , Germany! 2 goddamn hours! People are really overdoing it and looking for a hassle if you ask me.

You are right, piscian. I got pulled off for "extra screening" as a 14 year old (last year) in DC, with my classmates on a field trip to the east coast. It kind of scared the living f- out of me because they chose me, a short little guy, instead of my 73 other, sort of larger classmates. It took a measly 5-10 minutes and I was on my way back to LAX in no time.
