Cefdinir
I think he meant the new LGA 2011 socket for the hexa-cores on up. TechPowerUp - LGA 2011
Artillery
Good stuff, but I'm slightly confused: is the Ivy Bridge going to be a socket 1366 as well as 1156?
RetiredTacos
Ivy bridge is supposed to be a new socket, code name LGA 2011. Also ready ivy bridge chips will fit in the 1155 socket, so not sure on that.

Does that meaning the 1366 is going to become obsolete then? :\

r3dm0nd
i thought at least for a while the 1366 and 1154 sockets were going to be wheat they were sticking with?
RetiredTacos
Does that meaning the 1366 is going to become obsolete then? :\ No not at all. For current i7 owners from a GAMING perspective there's really not a reason to go to sandy bridge unless you're just wanting the new tech. A 4.0-4.5ghz i7 is far from obsolete right now. Plaayer
Ahh... I should have waited for Sandy Bridge.
LaMigra
so what exactly is the sandy bridge gonna bring to the table? I am a bit confused about it

Cr(+)sshair
Why 2014? Because every 4 years technology doubles.

I am a bit confused about it 4.5+ghz quad cores on air, and very fast memory speeds. Also integrated graphics that work very well.

enigma#
[video=youtube;qpMvS1Q1sos] haha in all seriousness, I can't wait to see what Sandy Bridge actually pushes out. I have an i7-960 sitting around doing nothing (and yes, i'm still on the q9400) but I will wait to buy whatever Intel puts out for Ivy Bridge or Rockwell (since I'm not in a rush to upgrade). Based on what I've read it's going to be an awesome processor X_x. Given that AMD is trying really to compete, who knows what will happen :S Edited January 13, 2011 by enigma#
