Those terms especially fa****s are used to discriminate against gays. I think people should respect each other regardless of the differences. Whether we call someone retarded or fa**** then it is like saying the N word. We all have a freedom of speech in society but because we do does not give us the right to mention out of ignorance words discriminating against people. Remember if freedom of speech excluded the N word then many** authoritative figures would not be forced to resign because that would have been a violation of their constitutional standards of rights. Same thing should go for the term fa**** too. Remember also that our actions will have an impact on the younger generation and if we are not thoughtful on how we handle these matters then our children will grow up thinking the way we do which can come in conflict with society. But Generally speaking, fa**** is a pretty ugly word, but it depends on the context/intent. For instance, after I bought a six pack at a liquor store, the guy handed me my change and scoffed "fa****" under his breath when I walked away. That was kind of fucked up.
