-O-P-rime
Well Yesterday was a very frantic day, there was waiting in line for 3 hours and over 1000 people to push past but i was able to try out some upcoming games. These games being SWTOR, Brink, Guild Wars 2, Battlefield 3, That new need for speed game on pimpin racing chairs and other miscellaneous indie games. I'll try my best to scrap my memory together and give you a picture for each game. However, i'll go over SWTOR the most indepth because i had 45 minutes to play the game. BTW, THIS WILL BE A TL;DR so if you want to skip all the reading, i'll summarize everything at the bottom. SWTOR - I played origins because it was the somewhat faster line and i didnt want to spend anymore time waiting and watching other people play. But while waiting in line i had the liberty to talk to Hall Hood, the lead writer for both the trooper and the smuggler story, Daniel Erickson, the guy you always see in the videos, Stephen Reid, a really chill guy who is in charge of the whole community, some marketing people and Rob something, who gave me a free shirt. Anyways, i watched people play the 45 minute flashpoint many times so i can tell you the basic over view of it, but if you want to watch it and not read then heres the video link http://www.swtor.com/media/trailers/taral-v-developer-walkthrough Gameplay - So basically there were all republic classes but they had already advanced to their advanced classes and were level 32. The smuggler was speced as a scoundrel healer, the consular was speced as a sage off-healer but also off-dps. The jedi knight was speced as a guardian off-tank also off-dps, and the trooper was speced as a vanguard main tank. The fighting and skill using was very fluid and it felt like you never stopped hitting something or blocking something. Everyone in the party was doing something so it really never seemed to be that one person was sticking out. Visuals & Sound - They have really upgraded the graphics from last time, everything is smoothed out. The sounds are just so awesome, the music fits in perfectly with the action, the scenery and whatever your doing. So they get a great job from me. However i did have some texture glitches but thats something that can be taken care of in a small patch but i really didnt care I was really immersed into the gameplay. Origin Worlds Typhoon - Jedi Knight (Somewhat Spoilers) [spoiler=Spoilers]Hall Hood convinced me to try the knight out because he was going to tell me how he did the story as i played. Hes a pretty great guy. Basically you start off on typhoon where a group of flesh raiders have taken some padawans (By this time you are still a padawan). You go around the starting area opening cages and killing flesh raiders, pretty generic stuff but you actually have a reason to do it, so i was more then happy to slaughter some flesh people. After a while i eventually leveled up and the way you get more skills is that you buy it and the first skill you get is the awesome force leap. The jumping motion is absolutely wonderful. But sadly i only go to play to level 3 because they had tech difficulties and they were closing soon. WAAAAHHH ;-; Anyways that is as much i can remember off the top of my head but if you have any questions dont hesitate to ask. Brink - I only got to play this awesome game for a good 5 minutes. But from what i could tell is that if you love parkour and shooting people and doing tasks within tasks you'll love this game, i do because of the endless customization, S.M.A.R.T. movement and the small tasks that make you always doing something different in generic gamemodes. I was a scout and i was ordered to intercept transmissions from the other team. Or i was an assassin and i had to kill a certain player for extra xp. Guild Wars 2 - I only got to watch people play this game so i dont really have anything specific to add but this. If you loved guild wars 1 you will definitely love GW2, its more of an action mmo then anything because you are alway on the move. I got to talk to the executive producer of the game and the art director. They are both awesome people so im sure they're going to spread their awesomeness through to the game. BattleField 3 - The only thing i have to say about this game is that the destruction has gone from 2.0 to 3.0+++ for example, you hit a building with a rocket and it sends ripples through the building while exploding glass and creating cracks in the wall, this all implies that the graphics are completely on point and the sounds are about as realistic as it gets. Need For Speed Chair - So awesome, makes you feel like you are in the racing car and the pretty much 80" tv in front of you also helps a lot. too bad you cant buy both of those for cheap, what a loss. Miscellaneous Indie Games - Did you know that kirk shilling has his own gaming studio, i for one didnt but he was there at pax and had his own booth. Supposedly hes making an mmo? But i got to try out several indie games and i've just got to say that they were actually pretty awesome. Especially Smuggler Truck lololol anyways thanks for reading (if you did read) Now for the people who TL;DR i will just grade the game on a get it, rent it or leave it scale SWTOR - If you love mmos and star wars, GET IT Brink - If you like jumping around while shooting people, GET IT, if you want something super original thats not like this but you still want to try it out, RENT IT Guild Wars 2 - If you loved the first, or you want an entry free subscription, GET IT Battlefield 3 - If you want the same game as the last but with more destruction and better graphics, but if you want to get something different RENT IT/LEAVE IT Need For Speed - RENT IT, just my personal preference Indie Games - They'll be free in like a month so WAIT. Again if you have any questions PAX related or game related, shoot me a pm or post it here. Oh and yeah i got 2 shirts about 10 badges 2 posters and a lot of keys for games. Arclyte
Thanks for the rundown! I wish I could have gotten my ass back east to go, but I guess I'll have to settle for PAX Prime. Maybe I'll see if I can sneak into E3 this year...
