2011 Canadian Federal Elections

Canadian Federal Elections take place on May 2, 2011.

Personally this will be my first time voting in a federal election. I did vote locally for mayor, counselor, school board trustee etc.

I was just wondering from those Canadians in HG if you will be voting, who you support, issues in Canada etc.

In the previous elections, the winning local MP was Wayne Marston of the NDP. He's still very popular here but surprisingly the Green Party is gaining a lot of popularity.

Also, I was wondering if you guys felt that Elizabeth May should have been part of the televised debate??

I strongly support those who can vote to go out and do so!!!

I find it interesting that we haven't had a coalition government yet. It's been talked about numerous times yet hasn't happened. Quebecois just get too many votes inside of Quebec (they'll probably never get one outside of Quebec) and technically speaking if they wanted to, they could form a coalition and make the party in power useless essentially.

I'm not a big liberal supporter but after reading up on Justin Trudeau, I must say I'm quite a fan. His dad was an amazing prime minister, and the rise he's taken despite his age is impressive.

I definitely don't agree with "separatists" but at the same time I do understand why people from Quebec believe they're I guess, different from the rest of Canada?

I've been there numerous times and it reminds me so much of Europe. I love it :D

let's stay on topic: Canadian politics.

Although I'm not a fan of politics (esp. Canadian politics), I have to say the entire issue of promises is that many promises said at election time are only said to get votes. I know pretty much all political parties will follow through with some of the said promises. This is pretty much stereotypical election politics

And yes Jella, we're so blue in alberta xD

As per the Elizabeth May comment, this debate is hosted by a private consortium not a public. I would say they could have let her debate (as they are a national party with pretty significant visibility) but once again, this is a private domain issue not public.

I find the idea of forming coalition governments (Liberals, Quebecois, and the NDP) make the point of voting for a party to lead our country is a big contradiction.

My parents are both switching over to green this year. I'm glad to see their popularity rise.

You guys have so many damn candidates. All we have is Obama and then some Tea Party retard. Anyway, I don't like Harper because he supports seal hunts which are plain disgusting and cruel.

Our system is just... different. You vote for a local representative, to rep your area in the house of commons. Whichever party wins the most seats, its leader becomes the prime minister.
