phaT-X
Just curious if anyone here plays Crysis 2? I personally love it.. though the game has had it's ups and downs with alot of players. Crytek did a few things wrong, the first was not dedicating enough time to the PC edition of the game, since they decided to release it as a multi-platform game and wanted to meet their release date, the PC edition had quite a few bugs, though personally I never had many issues at all, alot of others did. Things like loosing connection all the time, loosing stats / rank ups / unlocked weapons, random crashing, and issues with SLi / CrossFire. Personally, I think I got disconnected a total of 4 times and only crashed twice. Since then, Crytek has released several patches and the game is fixed for most people, though some still have issues. The next thing Crytek did wrong.. well, they decided to develope and maintain their own "anti-cheat detection monitoring system" ... wow, this was a massive fail. I've been playing PC games since 1995 and have never in my entire life seen so many hackers in a game, within one week of official release, the multiplayer part of Crysis 2 was completely overrun by hackers, and the hacks were worse than anything you see in CS:Source... pure crazy shit. The Crysis 2 community bitched, moaned, and groaned trying to get Crytek to get a handle on it... unfortunately it took them awhile before they did. Finally, me and some others started emailing the Crytek developers and told them to approach the banning of hackers in a different mannor, they were just simply banning "CD Keys", hence someone can just get a new key and start hacking again. Though they won't completely say how it works now, I believe they used the method we asked them too, which was a "VAC" like banning system, but it works faster. Unlike Steam/Valve, they also accept demos of players and monitor stats as well. So for now, the hacking is down to a bare minimum, infact I have'nt seen any in weeks. All this though, had a huge impact on the Crysis 2 gaming community, for a game that was so inticipated and popular, the multiplayer game play is by no means over crowed. When I would search for servers, I would find between 15 to 35 occupied out of over 1000 (worldwide!). Then to add insult to injury, Crytek released a DLC (3 new maps) and charged $9.99 for it, people were already mad cause of the bugs and hacking, then got furious when Crytek wanted them to pay money for 3 more maps! Hardly anyone purchased it. Since patch 1.8, I believe the sales have increased though, and so has the server count, I now can find anywhere from 50 to slightly over 100 servers occupied. So it is becoming popular again. The 3rd mistake Crytek made was... releasing it in "DirectX 9.0"! Why they did this I still do not know. Now grant it, it is probably the best looking dx9 game ever, the graphics are very very nice, but still.. it should have been released in "directX 11" (atleast dx10!). The first Crysis was directX 9 and directX 10, it had either mode, plus 32 bit and x64 bit editions also, then Crysis Warhead was directX 10, so why Crysis 2 fell back to directX 9 with no x64 bit edition, is a mystery, I believe it's because they were trying to release the game accross to many platforms and could not dedicate the time to the PC edition they needed to. However, we've been promised a "directX 11" patch (and possibly x64 bit mode too!), some screenshots have already been released by Crytek and nVidia, so hopefully it will be out soon. Regardless, it's still a very stunning looking directX 9 game! Anyway.. I just want to see the game get more popular, or popular again! When the demo was released, I believe the server counts were higher then than ever. Alot of people claim they "quit" because of the bugs, though I think it was the "hackers" that pushed them over the edge. However, most things seemed to be smoothed out now. I personally never had many issues, I think most people that did experience issues had older OS's too, like XP. I am not sure if the demo is still available or not, if it is.. try it out and see if you like it. I love it! It has lots of gaming modes too. Also, if you can't get the hang of the armoring up / cloaking, etc.. it has a "Classic" mode, which is just normal first person shooter style gaming (like CS:Source). It has achievements, weapons unlocks, rank up, suit enhancements, statistics, etc.. It's also more forgiving on your graphics card than previous editions. I have an Asus Sabertooth 990FX motherboard, AMD Phenom-II X6 1100T, 12gb ddr3 1600, Intel 510 Series SSD Drive 120gb, two nVidia GTX 465's in SLi and get between 100 fps to 170 fps (depending on map / game play), average about 119.6 fps. When I had just a single GTX 465, I averaged between 52 fps to 100+ fps using the "Extreme Graphics" setting.

I personally never had many issues, I think most people that did experience issues had older OS's too, like XP. Maybe they had a ridiculous amount of XP users whining when warhead came out? I never could get a lot of DX11 games to work on my laptop when it ran XP with the Dx11 patch. As for what you run it with, that looks like overkill. I run any game flawlessly on max setting with 4GB DDR3. My single Radeon HD 6850 graphics card works just fine. But then again you Nvidia guys always have to compensate. =P As for the game itself I found a few bugs when it first came out myself: http://b.static.ak.fbcdn.net/rsrc.php/v1/yf/r/wn29KX6UvhD.swf?v=10150099511138325&ev=0 It plays a lot better now though. But thats fine because it took me that long to get around to beating the single player. Edited June 16, 2011 by BobTd
