enigma#
Just as you thought you didn't have enough space for your porn... IBM is working on a storage project that will definitely make you rethink how much space you have. Utilising 200,000 hard-drives, IBM is working on a system that combines these drives togother to act like one, like RAID. For a point of reference, Facebook (one of the largest websites/web platforms in the world) has a 21 petabyte [Hadoop] cluster for their services. Technically speaking, you could clone Facebook about six times with one of these setups. Interesting part you could archive the Internet about 60 times with all that space. The original intention of this drive is to store weather simulations. For those crazy enough to think to buy one of these, the boot times might just make you not want to. On the other hand, being able to create up to 30,000 files/per second (several terabytes per second) is a joke but an awesome one nevertheless. Sadly, you can't run Windows on it. Finally, this array of disks is fault tolerant. The known tech specs are: 1. 200,000 hard-drive disks [about 630 GB for each drive) combined for a total of 120 PB (106.584 PiB) 2. Running on IBM's General Parallel File System 3. Theoretical throughput [bandwidth] of several TBps (Right now, only a few solid state drives and some RAID arrays can hit this speed) 4.
