I figured since you guys are super helpers...

Another issue we've noticed. The past 2-3 weeks a bunch of laptops & desktops have slowed to a crawl. Like the thing where your programs slowly come up bit by bit scrolling open on your screen kinda thing. The hardware light is constantly green (busy). The CPU usage is between 2-15%. At first I figured it was just crappy hardware, but then it started happening to newer models as well. I suspect corporate IT is forcing something on the network, however, its not my place to confront them. I don't see how we could have hardware failure across the board on so many systems (btw 98% Dell ^_^). It doesn't happen everyday to the same computers...so...wtf?

Are you talking about white horizontal lines going in teh same direction when you scroll up and down, like the screen refresh rate?

Have them boot up the laptops in Safe Mode with networking. If that still has them load slow boot up without networking.

Our login script is fine. I'm looking for something like Resource Monitor for Vista, but for XP. Then I can check the I/O processes on the hard disk and figure out whats causing the slow down.

I was told NOT to use my "CD Drive" as a toaster? Is this true or can I continue?

You mean as a cup holder?

You can keep shoving bread in there, but it will just come back out smashed and non-toasted. ;)

I set my coffee on my videocard to keep it warm, that mfer gets hot.
