latency issues

joined the hg dust 2 dm server for the first time in forever today, and was experiencing huge spikes in latency. for a short period it would be around 60 latency then it would jump up to around 200 latency, then come back down to 60. it kept going up and down and up and down in this range, making it extremely hard to play effectively. i checked if any background programs were running, and none were other than my AV which was NOT doing a scan at that time, and steam. i joined another server to test if i would experience the same problem, and i did not. i was getting a consistent 20-25 latency. i assume your servers are not east coast, so i expect latency in the 50-70 range, but these spikes are kind of odd. i have my speedtest.net results here if necessary. would appreciate any feedback or suggestions

Latency is only one factor in game play.

If you are concerned, try the following:

Open an instance of CMD.exe (Command Prompt) and type the following

pathping 67.228.181.72 > pathpingresults.txt

tracert 67.228.181.72 > tracertresults.txt

Navigate to your userprofile (e.g. C:\Users\%YOURUSERNAME%\) and you'll find a file called pathpingresults.txt

As well, do the same for tracertresults.txt

Dump the contents of the files onto a reply and this should give us more insight into the issue.

The most common problems for latency are usually due to poor ISP routing or because there is an external process (outside or inside your computer) that is causing the time for it to reach the server a long time.
