HG Mobille Application - Current Status

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

I've been using my phone to access the forums frequently lately, and I thought I'd stir up a seemingly old topic, because the last update I've seen for a true, well-designed, mobile HG forum interface was a post back in March by Homer:

Native iOS and Android app will be available in a few months. One that you will be able to search the App Store for "hellsgamers" and install it on your Home screen.

Does anyone know anything about the current status of the application that was in development from March?

Is there anything new going on? How come it has been so delayed?

Is the development taking longer than expected? Or has the project been cancelled?

Finally, if it has been cancelled, how come?

And if their isnt't one in development...

I came up with a few different ways a new HG mobile interface could be done, if there isn't one currently in development. I don't know anything about making mobile application's, websites, or mobile versions of exhisting sites, so these were just logical brainstorms I came up with, thinking of the best interface. However I was thinking someone with this knowledge, could potentially make one of these ideas a reality, giving HG an easy-to-use mobile interface.

1. Dedicated Application: the status on either an app for iOS/Android? (any update since Homer's back in March? HG Forum APP)

1a. I would believe tht this would be the best performing solution on any platform, however, multiple apps would need to be written for multiple OS's, making this the most time-consuming and difficult option.

2. Support to use HG in a Forum-Browser App: Future HG integration with forum applications such as "Tapatalk" or "Forum Runner" (I'm aware of the old integration with "Tapatalk" for iPhone was removed, but is there a possibilty of re-instatement? ; Also, there would need to be support for an Android equivalent.)

2a. From what I can assume, this would probably be the easiest option, however I feel members may lose support for different functionality from the site.

3.Well-Designed Mobile Site: a mobile version of the site and forums made without the need for a dedicated application, that would run in any phones default web-browser, and and have a better interface based around a touchscreen, than the current "lock in place" way of setting the normal site up as a "mobile site."

3a. An easy to use, link navigated interface that uses a "tree branch" system to break down the forum into easy-to-navigate categories and threads. Also links would be widely incorporated to easily take you to different threads, or back to a "homescreen" from which you can get to all the posts anywhere on the forum. Th like a normal browser, but with a mobile designed layout that would not only look better, but function better as well.

3b. bigger buttons within the threads that are easier to select, and harder to miss, thus preventing miss-presses (page numbers, reply link, reply with quote link)

3c. remove small, almost-hidden links around the site. For example, hitting the name of the member who posted a thread, rather than on the thread itself. So you end up on the members profile, instead of the desired post. Which means you now have to backtrack, waste 3G data, and wait for the page to load once more.

Thanks everyone for any information you have on the subject!
