LazaHorse
America had pop stars years before Kpop got popular. Didn't realize pop music had hipsters. American pop music has two very distinct eras divided right around the 1990s when Hip-Hop began being fused with Pop music. Korean artists were HEAVILY influenced by the early genre of Pop (MJ, Madonna, etc), but in turn K-Pop has had a HUGE influence on the newer American pop scene. Actually the two have gone hand in hand for the most part since the late 1990s. Korea's HOT and America's N Sync debuted and disbanded around generally the same time period. To say one's pop music came before or is better than the other would be to overgeneralize something VERY intricate and fascinating. Long story short, Pop music preceded even American culture, but the current concept of Pop music in both America and Korea has been a give and take relationship for decades.
