C9-Cookie
On mw3 it says my NAT type is open but after not playing any thing for about a week it suddenly says it's strict. Does this happen to any one else? or know how to fix this.

dorito^
This is all about your ports. The three NAT Types that you can have are Open, Moderate and Strict. The main reason someone will have a Strict NAT type is that they do not have the correct ports forwarded. Although, if you do forward your ports, and find it goes back to Strict after a few days, It will usually be because you have a Dynamic IP, compared to a Static IP. If you have a Dynamic IP address. This means that your IP will change everytime that you connect to the internet. Static, stays the same. I have a Dynamic IP when I play CoD also. Most of the time I will have a strict NAT type. From what I have heard from people that are reasonably knowledgable in the I.T. Field, is that if you forward ports on a Dynamic IP address, they will only stay forwarded on that address. So when it changes; you need to do it again. I used to do this but it became to much of a hassle. Recently though, I have found that it varies. Sometimes I will have an Open NAT and sometimes it will be Strict. In terms of gameplay. I have found that having an Open NAT will match me up to lobbies faster and it will usually be with people from Australia (as I live in Australia), Strict NAT (for me) takes about 1-2 minutes to find a lobby, and once it has found it, I am usually thrown into a lobby with players from Asian region, but with one or two other english speaking players. Who I assume are on Strict NAT aswell. If you want to give port forwarding a try. You can visit http://portforward.com/ and follow the instructions for your specific router. I am yet to find a permanent fix to this problem. But I am still looking. Edited March 4, 2012 by R3venant

Linoleum Knive
Im probably the last guy that has an idea on NAT, aside from the deifnition, but if you are playing on a console, and you have NAT issues, you might check your router's admin settings for a DMZ, which is a specific IP that gets taken out of the router's firewall (from what I understand) which makes it an open NAT. It leaves it open to attack (Oooh im scared of you DDoSing my Xbox.) but as long as you manually set your console's network configuration, you should be golden. This is all assuming you have DMZ, and I wouldnt recommend doing it for your PC.
