enigma#
might want to look at benchmarks it's not always about frequency http://www.legionhardware.com/articles_pages/amd_fx_8150fx_8120fx_6100_and_fx_4170,6.html http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+FX-4170+Quad-Core
BranHorse
The FX chips were just a big bunch of disappointment for me. I saved up for a 8 core saw the benchmarks and passed. Great for the price i guess try to get a thurban though 1090t and 1100t still better even if they are clocked lower.
^TheRumor^
FX series was the biggest failure in AMD history, such a buzzkill. I was truly excited about being able to game at 5.8 GHz, but the reality is it falls behind the PII X4 series while gaming. I hope they get their shit together in the future. Logic
In my opinion I dont see how the FX chipset series was a failure. My framerate on all my games are fantastic, if not better than when I had my Core i5 760.

My framerate on all my games are fantastic, if not better than when I had my Core i5 760. This is why it was a failure. The processor does well with multi-threaded workloads, other than that it lacks performance while gaming.

But part of my point is an AMD FX 4100 =$120 While an i5 equaliviant =$200-220. In my opinion, I think the average buyer would take the 4100. It was a huge disappointment to see that an 8 core(bulldozer) AMD processor can be beaten by an equal cost quad core i5 as far as gaming goes. AMD needs to step it up, something that can surpass the phenom would be nice
