General Red
personally I have to upgrade my mobo/cpu again, and if i could i woulda bought the highest grade i can. If i were u, dish the cash for an i7... other than that looks good. Also I like the haf932 case a LOT. but personal choice.
Defiant Behavior
Might I suggest a more powerful power supply? I've got the i5 and it works great for me.
empty^G
well i would but i have to keep it under 1k cause my parents are paying for it
Defiant Behavior
Well I found this one....http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171054 It's $5 more than the other one.
empty^G
its not modular so thats why i picked that one and also i can over clock my cpu to 4.8ghz and still have about 50 watts left on my psu
General Red
if you using anywhere close to max it will fry the psu and make voltages less stable while keeping your heat high. Highly suggest spending the extra 5. You could also wait for certain things to go on sale and peice it together. I know it sucks but my best computers were built over time using sales. Plaayer
its not modular so thats why i picked that one and also i can over clock my cpu to 4.8ghz and still have about 50 watts left on my psu Hmm. You're going to need a decent cooler if you plan to get 4.8GHz. From what I've heard, Ivy Bridge CPU's run much hotter than the last generation Sandy Bridge CPU's. Also, if you're going to order this soon, I would suggest using some of Newegg's Memorial Day sales items. The notable deals that I saw were the Seagate 2TB HDD for $110 and the G.Skill 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1333 RAM for $85. I'll just leave some of the links here for you. http://promotions.newegg.com/NEemail/May-0-2012/StorageCore24/index-landing.html?nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL052412&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL052412-_-EMC-052412-Index-_-Header-_-ClickHere http://promotions.newegg.com/NEemail/May-0-2012/Memorialdaysale22/index-landing.html?nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL052212&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL052212-_-EMC-052212-Index-_-E0-_-IT#IT
BranHorse
The OCZ modstream is a board killer. It fried my poor 550 be =[ and would make weird noises Ditch the fan controller and the fans for the time being (Do to my injury im fucked on my WC system for a bit) and spend more on the psu. The switch has more than enough cooling to keep you cpu at stock for the time being.
FEBRUARY
give your parents 80 more dollars and get an i7 2600k
AnonyHorse
The new ivybridge chips have had quite a few problems with heat. From what i've heard the sandybridge chips have better performance when overclocking. It will be extremely hard to get that cpu stable at 4.8 ghz on air cooling. If i were you i'd grab a 2600k for the extra few bucks...if not the 2500k would also be good. Not a fan of the case and mobo, i'd switch it out for either an antec 1200 (amazing airflow and a built in fan controller) or one of the HAF series. Like everyone else pointed out, another psu would be a very good idea. OCZ dont have the best track record for power supplies, if you can grab a corsair. 700+ watt would be a good safe point, but you could get away with 650. If you replace the cpu with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072 mobo with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131792 and psu with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020 you should be set to go. again I urge you to get the 1200 though, much better airflow and with branflakes cooler it will be helpful. Also you wont need to buy any more fans...thing has about
^TheRumor^
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136798 <- That's an enterprise drive made for servers and large storage solutions. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533 <- That's designed more towards home users and it's the 6gb/s architecture. In addition, I would strongly suggest not going with OCZ PSU's, they have a mediocre at best reputation. In the end, take mau5's suggestion in regards to steering clear of the 3rd gen i7's (unless you are an experienced at overclocking Intel), as they will challenge you at higher frequencies.
