UrShulgi
I know I posted an earlier article about how this would probably be coming soon, but here's a followup: http://games.slashdot.org/story/12/06/05/1236221/steam-for-linux-will-launch-in-2012 Should happen sometime later this year. And ready commentary out there confirms my earlier thoughts that this is paving the way for a linux based 'Steam Console' for home gaming. If that happens, expect most developers who are on Steam to start writing linux ports of their games, so that they can be on the linux based Steam Console. ExGBrian
Question is what games will it run? I dont think the linux is going to be too big D:
Mark
They'll likely start with indie games like limbo and braid that would be easier to code onto a new system before they move onto tougher games like tf2 and portal.
UrShulgi
They're porting the Source Engine, not individual games. Once the engine is ported, the rest should be pretty simple. Once Source is ported, that means CSS, TF2, DoD, etc, all comes to Linux at once.

D1mentio
Yeah, agreed with ExGBrian, doesn't seem like many games would be compatible with Linux, besides no one really would think of using Linux as a gaming os, just sayin'.
Wingless
Yeah, agreed with ExGBrian, doesn't seem like many games would be compatible with Linux, besides no one really would think of using Linux as a gaming os, just sayin'. Oh, but you're mistaken. In some (Windows) games that I've run in nix, nix actually outperformed a Windows machine. Linux has superior memory management, but the big headache is always emulating proprietary drivers, and tools, like DX. If I had a little more free time, I'd probably still be running it for my primary OS.
Bob the Android Penguin
I would've dumped windows long time ago if steam ran on it. Though linux has always been a bit lacking in compatible games, it has improved some in recent years. With Windows 8 on the horizon, I'd like to migrate back to linux....
