Bob the Android Penguin
WARNING: 1. Day Z is in an early stage of development called alpha. It is buggy and incomplete with many placeholder or missing features. Primary purpose of the current release is testing. 2. It is extremely fun but also extremely brutal. You will have to adjust your play style. Losing is fun. You will die many times. Don't get attached to your character. Take nothing personally. The style of the mod is meant to be extremely challenging and to even feel punishing. It's the apocalypse, nothing is served on a silver platter. Installation: Rather than regurgitate what others have said I highly recommend following the wiki article: DayZ Install Guide. Warning: 1. Read the "What do I need to play this mod" as these are crucial. 2. Follow instructions for either: Steam Version: http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_install_DayZ#DayZ_Steam_installation or Retail: http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_install_DayZ#DayZ_Non-Steam_installation 3. Make sure to install the beta patch after installing the game: http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_install_DayZ#ARMA2_Beta_patch Customization: Launch Game < Options < Video Options1. Turn vsync off 2. Turn post processing effects off (Post processing has an ugly motion blur that will make you dizzy) 3. Turn anti-aliasing off 4. Put Video Memory on Default Other graphics options you have to play around with depending on the strength of your system. Arma 2 is a cpu whore and putting some options on high actually places the burden on your gpu, increasing fps some. 1. Options < Game Options < Head Bob - Turn slider all the way down or low. Removes annoying and unrealistic blur when running. 2. Options < Control < Smoothing - Turn slider all the way down. Gameplay tips: 1. DayZ control guide http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=5564 2. The inventory system guide: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=785 --- Would post more tips, but too lazy. Feel free to add, critique, or ask questions regarding anything I've linked/posted above. All credits go to people at the DayZWiki and DayZForums. Bob the Android Penguin
http://www.six-updater.net/ You're welcome. Six updater does its job well, but I hate every second of using it. It just feels fat and slow with an overdone interface, but it does manage mods well. Even with Six updater the "What do I need to play this mod" is still critical as most problems come from missing a step (launching game once or installing beta) there.
