Wanted to ask you guys this...

I've been thinking for a while, couple weeks now, that I'm really patriotic. I'm not in love with the United States, but I love my country.

I love my freedom of speech, my freedom of reading whatever I want, my freedom of believing what I want to, Christianity, or nothing at all. I love that I'm not repressed, that I can basically do whatever I want, as long as I'm not breaking the law. Not everyone on the globe is given that - in North Korea, after Kim Jon Ill's death, if you weren't considered grieving enough, you would of been thrown in jail. (Source: http://www.rt.com/news/north-korea-kim-grief-575/)

That's what I love about my country - I can feel whatever I want to feel, without being antagonized.

This is why I'm considering joining the Marine Corps.

I want to defend this country, I want to fight for my family's rights, friends rights, neighbors rights, a total stranger I don't know's rights.

What do you guys think?

I read someone's status on fb earlier today, he's in HG too. I'll quote it without mentioning his name.

"Sometimes, one must wonder if one's country is going to be there for you when you have finished being there for your country."

This is what I agree with. My cousin is a para for the Belgian army. I'm proud of him but I hope he quits it soon. Imho, it's just not worth it.

I truly think that every american at the age of 18. Should do a mandatory 1 year service to their country. To give their life structure and meanings now a days people are just f****** lost in the world. This country is going to go down the s****** soon if we dont do something about it though

I think you're confusing offence and defense, in which case would be the national guard.

I don't think mandatory military service will do much of anything but put a bunch of angry 19 year olds with PTSD,huge egos, and lethal weapons training out on the streets. One year is not enough to change a person for life.

Basically your saying you want your gang members to be military trained.

I respect the people who choose to enter the armed forces and lets not forget that they made that choice for their own reasons. Being forced is a totally different thing.

Change that to 3 years and you're on to something.

Israel has the right idea: 3 years for men, 2 years for women.

I think you would be joining for the right reasons and I would thank you for your service.

Yes yes yes yes. Israel definitely has the right idea, and to be perfectly honest the men and women that come out of that are some of the smartest people on earth. Also it really changes your maturity and sense of responsibility.
