enigma#
I'll take a stab at this one What are your needs in regards to having a portable computer? Do you require it for gaming or just typical home use? What are your "nice to haves" for a computer itself?
Mr.Beck
I will need this laptop for pretty much everything. For work, college, and gaming. It will be nice to have a good motherboard so it can be left on for a while, as well a great graphics card for most games.
AnonyHorse
Are you planning on buying it brand new? If so i'd look on newegg as they have some great deals on their laptops. Asus, MSI, Etc are a great place to start.

General Red
I bought my dell, i chatted to them online (1 year ago about) and got max specs for the time for that price. So talk to them and be like i know what i want blah blah blah Got max shit for 4-500$ off. and they came out and repaired it twice. first time ram replaced, 2nd time whole mobo replaced. (means i got new thermal grease and everything) super nice to have the warranty since its my lifeline at school. (they come to you in like 2 days i swear)
