Goat Posted October 30, 2012 Share Posted October 30, 2012 I recently moved in with my good friend and after helping with some heavy renovation, we finally had cable and internet installed. I have always had cable/broadband internet but this time it's Windstream's DSL. I was curious as to how fast my internet connection was so I went to speedtest.net to find out. I was a little shocked to find out how low my results were. I'm used to having around 4 times this. So, my question is, is there any way to increase my speed? Contact your provider and ask them if they have a different speed package that you can upgrade to. DSL has some inherent limitations, but there may be an upgrade path for you. It used to be that the big perk of DSL was that you were on a dedicated line, and weren't subject to other people on your node sucking up all of the bandwidth, but every cable provider I've been with in the last 6 years or so has had some fairly decent speeds. My DSL is way faster than COX Cable in our area (AZ). Download Speed: 36.699 Mbps (4.6 MB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 4.684 Mbps (0.6 MB/sec transfer rate) The closest server located in Phoenix, AZ performed this test with a latency of 24 milliseconds.
