LazaHorse
I'm sure some of you have seen this before, but I figured it would be interesting to see HG's results. http://www.politicalcompass.org/ This website "measures" your political leanings based on how you respond to a set of questions. If you'd like to try out my little experiment (just for fun, nothing academic here), read their homepage shpeel then take the test and take a picture of the results (probably gonna have to take a screenshot and upload it to zhost or something). Then read what's written below in the ninja tags and follow the instructions there. It is important to take it first BEFORE reading and doing what's below. AGAIN! DO NOT READ WHAT IS NINJA TAGGED BELOW UNTIL YOU TAKE THE TEST FIRST AND RECORD YOUR RESULTS: The questions in the test seem for many who take it to lean toward a certain ideology. In other words, they PUSH you to answer them a certain way despite what your own ideals may be. With this in mind, re-take the test and try to NOT LET THE QUESTIONS push you to any answer other than your own. Once you do, re-record your results and post both the original results and these new results as a response to this thread. Can't wait to see how HG's ideologies match up in light of this thought experiment. Real. Edited November 1, 2012 by LazaHorse

SuperChargerFan
I read the instructions, heres my sympnosis: Yes, the question very much want to sway you...you have to be VERY, VERY, VERY careful...but you have to be more careful that you dont contradict yourself at the same time...heres how mine went: The problem for we was during the SECOND time, I tried to express some more SOCIAL freedom, not more ECONOMICAL freedom, the questions are really a bitch to manitulate if you are not on the line between super Left/Lib or Right/Auth, or the line y=x...cause implied freedoms are easier to call in individual systems but are not so much when a test tries to sway you... careful what you say. Also, this... You cannot be moral without being religious.THIS IS A BITCH!!! Edit: Can get this bitch in a spoiler...need some help! NINJA FIXED! DarkMonotone
So what does this say about me? And yes, I read the directions about taking it twice but I don't even really know what I'd consider my political views so it wasn't subjected towards a paticular ideal or belief. http://www.politicalcompass.org/printablegraph?ec=-2.00&soc=1.79 Looks like I'm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahmoud_Abbas Edited November 1, 2012 by DarkMonotone
LazaHorse
What came up in lecture after we all took this test was that the majority of the people who take it fall into the bottom left qudrant, i.e. liberal economists with libertarian social ideologies. I myself was in that section. However, we also discussed how the test itself seems to lean that way in how it asks some questions. Don't be confused if the test outcome doesn't match what you believe to be your actual leanings. It's arguably MADE to do that. The intentions of the survey seem to be twofold. On the one hand, it helps you be aware of how your political leanings measure up with others (especially notable political figures). On the other, it shows the power of interrogation itself in that the way you ask a question can easily affect the answer received. Real. This test made me feel good. They do edge the questions that way, which is funny and very bad for a survey/study.
