More Informative Perp Loading Page.

The current loading screen, which is just a bunch of blurred photos changing in random intervals under an awfully made Garry's Mod logo and 'PERP' written in white, ugly letters.

It isn't fun or informative for new players to look at; what person would want to invest up to twenty minutes depending on their connection on a gamemode that is entirely obscure to them?

I could make a .GIF in GIMP that is better than the current loading screen, and I'm not that good at it.

If I knew what dimensions were required for a loading page, and whether or not it was possible to toss a .GIF onto an HTML page, I would go ahead and try to make one that's actually stylized and fun to look at.

[edit]

I made my own set of splash pages, download link for the WHOLE thing is on the second page, I'll put an example here.

hglogob1.png

It's scaled down to not freeze or slow anyone's browser.

I work on PERP's code. Not the loading screen.

The loading screen is basically a website page. If anyone can make a better loading screen I would welcome submissions for a replacement.

You should have a picture of a cowboy walking through the woods with a M16 slouched over his shoulder. His cowboy hat hiding his face, and in big fat red letters. Have "Holy shit. Cowboy Pickles IS the sexiest Mofo of all of Hellsgamers" do that, and I'll +1 this idea. Kthxbye. Oh btw, the song I have in my signature is my theme song. I'm planning on making a music video with it after I make "Evocity is the Gangsters' paradise."

I'm gonna try to re-create the Hell's Gamers logo in an ultra-huge resolution in bright red on a crimson background, include whatever useful information I can fit in without having it clip into the box where the 'loading block' would normally be, and try to create a PERP logo that'll fit in with the style of the image.

I'm also going to do a .GIF version with various gameplay shots displayed within the Hell's Gamers semi-ring.

I'm doing this in the highest resolution supported by any computer monitor anywhere, 2650x1600, so it can be scaled down to any resolution and only run the risk of looking nasty or squished because of the aspect ratio (which shouldn't make it look bad unless someone is using a fucked-up CRT screen type thing).

Oh, and, 'Salutatio ad Infernum' engraved on the HG logo, which is Latin for, 'Welcome to hell.'

Speaking of which, because it is like a web page it supports dynamic content as well. So anyone tackling it might want to include a section for player stats / information as well!

So I'll just design the logo and everything on a .png and leave a big space below for say, one rule to appear on screen for about ten seconds, and then another, and then another, and then another bout of space for player stats or something to appear, or see if I can write up an html page that does that fancy frame loading with jpegs.

Put in a title for the game mode in the center of the ring and added a disclaimer about the download time. I could make a fuckton of .png files that have different snapshots of the gamemode displayed in the center of the devil-ring and different rules pasted below the devil-ring that could be switched around using code.

http://img163.images...3619/hglogo.png - massive image, be warned.

Here's the base splash, when I'm finished there should be thirty eight of these, each with a different rule pasted on under the logo and a nice looking screenshot within the logo itself, overlapping the Pulsar Effect title.

That is extremely hard on the eyes.

Unless something about the loading process changed in GM13, GIFs wouldn't work due to the fact that the game literally freezes when initiating a connection to the server. The only time that a GIF would work is if the person is downloading files.

I replaced the bright red background with a cool-coloured blurry one that is more than a gradient, and made the golden text at the bottom white while removing the Pulsar Effect title.

I'm going to toss in the snapshots and rules, and possibly make a separate version without the HellsGamers ring.

Red and yellow don't mix btw.. You can keep it simple, if I can get some screen shots tomorrow I'll show you what I mean.

As in the contrast between the letters, logo, and background?

I fixed that, the splash screen has a background similar to the one currently used, though it is mostly a giant blur of cool colors that serve to lighten the blow dealt by the bright red HellsGamers symbol and logo.

It looks nicer now, easier to look at without necessarily throwing together the cool PERP style and HG's hellish theme too hard.

I got four simple (non-edited but detailed enough and pretty to stare at for awhile) screenshots to fit in the HG symbol ring, three of those screenshots will be used for 9 different rules, while the fourth will be used 11 times, to come to a total of 38.

Finished. Gonna upload the splash screen to mediafire or filesmelt. It's 74MB. It's up to you guys to scale it to an acceptable size and code the page for it as well as throwing in whatever dynamic statistics you want, if you want to use it as the splash.

Hope it's good enough, took a hefty while to fix the background and throw in all of the rules and screenshots.

There's also a blank version without any rules or screenshots, just the base image that whoever can edit.
