Artillery
Hey Dirty. What are your goals for upgrading? Is it just to improve fps only in CSS or is to try and play games like Crysis on very high - if so, you're going to need to spend more than $400 because $400 alone will buy you the graphics card. As you know, CSS is a CPU heavy game, so... the faster the CPU the better your performance with Source Engine games. However, with your current board, you should be able to handle a better processer, the best processor I know of that line is the AMD Athlon +6400 3.2 GH X2 which is pretty good, I use it. I'm not sure if you'll be able to find it on Newegg though. You might need to look elsewhere as a lot of places that I used to shop online no longer stock this beast. But I'm pretty confident that you can get it for less than $400 as I got mine for $250 just as they stopped producing them. Also, what kind of RAM do you have? Is it SD, DDR or DDR2? Wingless
Your bottleneck is probably going to be that GFX card. Also need to know what board you're using to know what we can do on your ram. It's probably an old board with underpowered ram... Are you running 100% on your CPU and RAM when you're playing?
Dirty
Are you running 100% on your CPU and RAM when you're playing? not for games like CSS & TF2 games like f.e.a.r my RAMs at 100%

Artillery
Alright good, was just curious. If you get a better cpu, you're most likely going to need faster ram for it as well. The rig that pwned suggested isn't bad, however the first buyers review worries me, as he had to send it back. Well Dirty. I know you're asking for help, but may we also hear your vision of the "ideal" computer. Might also help us make suggestions as well. RetiredTacos
Damn that motherboard blows african donkey balls so forget about upgrading anything. Here's what we can do. First off forget about "200 fps in tf2" Not gonna happen for 400 dollars bro. Hell in 32 man hoodoo I dip down to 100 on my rig with TF2 maxed at 1900x1200. But the below will do ALOT better than what you have now, you shouldn't drop below 60 with this (depending on your resolution) ECS 780GM - 70$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135075 Nvidia GTS 250 - 125$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150357 Corsa 400 Watt PSU - 50$ - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008 2x2GB Memory - 55$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166 AMD PHII 550 X2 - 100$ - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103680
