i recently made a post about how my web page searching doesnt work most of the time. As it turns out when this is going on i cant get on ventrilo either. so if you see me in-game on css and im not on ventrilo that is why. My vent cant resolve the hostname when my web searching problm is going on. Just wanted to throw that out there if your wondering why im not on vent a lot.

I have the EXACT same problem, for some reason at completely random times, my internet goes weird, I can connect using certain programs although my internet explorer doesn't load websites and my vent won't connect, however, I can still connect on HG, for some reason now I get super lag bumps, checked my net graph, it shows that suddenly my connection stops, waites a minute then my input to the server goes to like 20000, the game is basically unplayable on every server for me now, I might have to give up on playing CS:S, I've tried EVERYTHING, even formatting my computer didnt help, I get a fine connection to my wireless router, any help?

Are both[or either of you] using vista[any version] by chance?

2 theories.

First Theory: This is going to sound weird, but it happened to me with Vista (although now that i think of it, it could have been a conflict with ZoneAlarm)

- Download Google Chrome

- Browse web pages with your normal Browser

- When you get a web page that won't resolve, open google Chrome, visit the web page. Then you should be able to view it on your regular browser.

===================================

Second Theory: Try using a different DNS service.

Two ways you can try doing this:

------A-----

  •
  • Using the address bar of your web browser, navigate to your router's IP address
    • To find your router's IP address:
      • Click START > RUN > "cmd"
      • Then in the console window, type "ipconfig"
      • Your router's IP is the one that says GATEWAY, and it should look something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1

    [*]Sign into your router

    • If it asks you for a username and password, look up the default login info on the internet for your router model.

[*]Look for the DNS settings in your router (its different for every brand of router)

    • Screenshot (example):
      6833de3dfe2a251ca71da77e33c49274.jpg

[*]Set the DNS servers to OpenDNS's DNS ips

    • Primary: 208.67.222.222
    • Secondary: 208.67.220.220

[*]Save your changes and try visiting the web pages now

-----B-----

This method can be used in addition to --- or if you don't have a router --- instead of Part A

  •
  • Go to Network and Sharing Center (in control panel)

  • Click Change Adapter Settings on the left side
    • Screenshot:

[*]You will see one or more adapters. They can be called something like "Local Area Connection".

    • Right click the one you use for internet traffic and click Properties
    • A screen like this will open
      eddc14a0f5b36a9a80ab08f448e28f97.jpg

[*]Select the thing that says TCP/IP v4 and click the Properties button

    • A screen like this will open
      9634e5e52c42531d7ed0deb147b1066a.jpg

[*]Select the bubble that says "Use the following DNS server addresses" and enter the Preferred and Alternate DNS servers from OpenDNS mentioned above

[*]Save your changes and try visiting the web pages now
