COD: Oh, you want advanced gameplay and a different style?

Public: Yea

COD: Ha! Too bad!

Public: But why?

COD: Because fuck you thats why.

Moral of the story BF3 > All

Except no one asks for that from CoD ever. When is the last time CoD was intended to be a realism shooter? Probably WaW. It's an adrenaline shooter with intentionally simplistic gameplay. Go pretend you're a GI somewhere else.

pfffft when did i say i want it to be realistic? I said i want a different style. Every year it just feels so recycled. I understand not being able to make major changes yearly... but ever since MW3 Cod has been a let down for me.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there seem to be only four directions any FPS can go:

Realism (Battlefield, Red Dead Redemption in a way, CS in a way, most SOCOMs, DoD)

Adrenaline Junkie (CoD, 007s, crime games, Crossfire, GunZ)

Toon (TF2, Garry's Mod shooters)

Futuristic/Fantasy (Star Wars shooters, Gundam games, others that I'm too half-asleep to think of)

Of these CoD can only really go in 3 directions. Futuristic was a possibility with people expecting CoD: Futuristic Warfare. Of the others, they have always leaned toward expectations of adrenaline junkies and as you can see, they have that market dominated. You expect a "different" style in a market with limited options in which they've made a mark with one consistent style? U r dum.......

Realism: Arma 3, Project Reality, Red Orchestra

Kinda sorta not really realism: Battlefield 3

No Aim down the sights: Counter Strike series

Hip spray smg: Call of duty

F2P Cash market of hats: TF2

3rd person shooters: Star Wars games, Red dead, Fallout series(to an extent)

It's not the genre that matters, it's the game mechanics. BF3 may not be totally realistic, but it has fun ways to fight in vehicles and large scale battles. Realistic games are very slow paced and involve a lot of meticulous planning. BF3 does not require that kind of thought. Call of duty on the other hand requires zero thought and it seems that same idea of zero thought went into its creation. Why in the hell would a red dot sight make your hip accuracy better? I can understand a fore grip but a dot sight? And why would a game allow for weapons to become very accurate while hip firing. CS is not hip fire because accuracy is not affected as dramatically by movement. Hip fire in COD is and it should stay that way. Kill streaks have also bogged down the game. 30 kill streaks means 20 explosions and 2 air support things being used at the same time. That doesn't require any thought since it has become so easy to get kill streaks. I won't even go in to the plot holes in the single player. And the game engine. Sure parts of the engine might be updated, but the graphics part was obviously lost in that update.

TL;DR Call of Duty has become stale and needs a big revamp to become a quality franchise again.

I think the FPS Genre is dying out, as pretty much every other FPS is the same. Shoot this guy, take severe amounts of damage and hide behind chest high walls and play a shooting gallery when the enemy's pop out of cover. Crappy community with nothing but little kids talking about committing profanities with my mother. I don't know about you, but i'm done with CoD.
