Jake
Which one should i get? Is the price for the 950 worth it? or should i go with a 940. And does the 950 have unlocked multipliers like the 940?
RetiredTacos
Only the extreme edition CPU's (975) have an unlocked multi. Are you overclocking? If so the 920 is your best bet. The only difference between the CPU's is the multi and they go as follows. 920 = 20x 940 = 22x 950 = 23x If you are overclocking, honestly there is ZERO reason to get a 940/950. The 920 will hit the same clock speeds (4ghz+, around 191 bclk) as them assuming you have a good mobo. Currently almost every i7 board will do that with ease. Also keep in mind the 920 and 950 are now D0 revisions, which are generally better overclockers. You can get a 920 D0 at micro-center for 200$. Look for SLBEJ on the box, that shows its a D0. Any 950 you purchase will be a D0. What kind of cooling are you going to be using? Any goals in mind?
Jake
I must of read wrong, i was reading that the 940 has an unlocked multi. thank you for clarifying. Motherboard wont be a problem, i plan on running the Rampage II Extreme with a Noctua CPU cooler, or liquid cooling. I definitely plan on over clocking. going with 6gb Dominator RAM triple channel mem. 2x 500gb HDD in RAID 0. Corsair 1000w psu, not sure what gfx, buddy of mine might give me a killer deal on a GTX295. then a lg 23" 1080p monitor. Plan on using it just for web browsing

Plan on using it just for web browsing Good mobo, I am a big fan of the Bloodrage, but honestly most of the i7's will do great. For cooling I'd look into the Prolimatech Megahalems over the noctua. It is THE best air cooler they make for i7's. Note that you'll have to pick up fans clips and fans to go with it. http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/prolimatech-megahalems-cpu-cooler.html Dominators are good, a bit overpriced for what they are, but they look awesome lol...For HDD's, if those are WD 500 gigs, switch to either 320's or 640's. They are dual platter setups and a quite bit faster than the 500's 3x platters. The WD 640 gigs go from 65-75 (depending on black or blue version) If seagates, I believe those are dual platter. PSU is a bit much, although it doesn't hurt to have more power than needed, you could actually run that setup on a 650w Corsair with ease.. Video card sounds good, I like the 295's but 2x275's will be faster 99% of the time for 100$ less. Although the 295 is a sexy beast. Here's my setup although I have changed a few things, need to take some better pics. https://hellsgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3327

Yea no joke about the price on the Dominator, but they have gotten fantastic reviews and i trust Corsair a lot. i would go with a smaller PSU but ill probably run SLI in the future, and might as well already have more power ready to go. And the only reason im picking the 295 is because i MIGHT be able to get a steal on it, if not ill just step it down to a 275 or 280 maybe. Your setup is nice, pretty close on what i plan on building. What case is that!? Its a Beast! haha

Thanks for the compliment, the case is a Lian Li PC201.
Jake
That's another thing i haven't decided on yet. im not a fan of the "riced out" cases. i like mine plain for the most part, maybe a side window and a few lights, nothing ridiculous like some rainbow shit lol. Jake
The cheapest price i can find for the 920 is 280 from newegg, or tiger direct, and even then im not sure if they're going to send me a D0 or a C0. We dont have a micro-center out here, we have Frys electronics and theyre asking for $300 for the cpu. Fuck that!
RetiredTacos
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1443387 That's your best bet if you want to buy one online right now. Still not a guaranteed D0. Lucky for me microcenter is only a few hours away
