Vga To Dvi-D Adapter..

Hey guys!

I bought two "24+1 DVI Pin Male to VGA Female Converter Adapter DVI-D" http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150729498300

And well, they don't work. My monitors say "Check cable connection"....

Both of my monitors use VGA cords. So I couldn't use the DVI ports on my GTX 650 Ti.. That's why I bought the adapters so I can use the DVI ports.

Did I buy the wrong ones? Cause I just realized it says Converts DVI-D 24+1 pin male to VGA female

Did I need a VGA to DVI-D adapter?!

Thanks.

This may help you: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/221

Especially this part:

A DVI-D connector on a graphics card sends out a digital signal only, while a DVI-I connector, which carries both an analog and digital signal, can send out a digital signal (for digital displays such as flat panel LCD monitors) as well as analog signal (for older displays such as a CRT monitor) using a DVI to VGA adaptor shown below.

To answer your question, something is a bit off here. First, DVI-D (digital) can NOT be converted to VGA (analog) without a video processor (not adapter). If we assume that the description is incorrect, and that the adaprot is actually DVI-I instead, then your video card probably doesn't support DVI-I. This is something you will need to investigate, because there are some cheaper video cards that cut out that functionality. See if someone has been able to do it with an adapter, I'm sure you're not the first to want to try this.

Crap. So what do I need to do? Because I don't wanna spend money on a video processor -________-

I can't use these adapters I got.

The adapters I bought are used for VGA --> DVI-D? Or the other way around? lol

Because that's what I need.. Cause these monitors are dumb and only use VGA cords. Which is dumb if you ask me.

Asus GTX 650 Ti

This card only supports DVI-D sadly

Schematic below

You could at this point use the VGA port and get something like tihs:

Yeah I know. I'm using the VGA port at the moment and hate it.

Did you not get a DVI cable with your monitor? I have two monitors and one is hooked up with HDMI while the other is DVI. Word on the street is that DVI > VGA anyway

I have no clue. If it did it would have to be a VGA (on the monitor) to DVI (on the PC) Because the monitor has a VGA port, not a DVI. :( Yeah I know!!

I would recommend something like this. I own one similar (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008O7RH5C/) and it works well. You might have to play without the HDMI resolution output, but this does the video processing (from digital to analog) so it will work for your monitor.

Do I have to have the audio one? Because I just use a headset..

Correct :) That should allow you to do what you need, you would connect one VGA through that connecter, and your HDMI, and the other to the VGA port on your video card. Just a note, my HDMI to VGA converter does get warm after a few hours, so leaving it on for days at a time might not be the best idea.
