A lot of simplistic games ( and even some advanced) use lua as there main programming language.

Personally I started on roblox a long time agao and had some fairly popular maps. Kind of a nooby place to start but thats were I was introducted first, Then went on to using it in source and garrysmod.

The first time I used LUA it was when I had started my own WOW Privater server back when Burning Crusade had just been out maybe a few months. I used a stand alone interpreter (the GUI was helpful until I learned the code better) I used it mainly to script my own custom boss fights. There I learned that the 'if- than' perimeters could be so easily established with LUA.

I was first introduced when I found an addon you had to download called wiremod. I had some experience making small fun maps with basic lua console commands, but WireMod's E2 got me started in the real just of it. My first code involved a simple radius detector explosive that spawned a used explosive barrel if you got too close. This was easy, but it's good for messing with people you don't like. That's my first experience with Lua [btw this was way back when, when Lua was the base for WireMod...Now it's just some random bits of Javascript and Lua lol].
